It is narrated from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: "Take your children for Hajj; let it not be that you eat up their share of provision (wealth) yourselves, yet (by delaying the performance of Hajj) leave the burden of their sins upon their necks."
What is meant is that when children possess wealth and reach the age of maturity, Hajj becomes obligatory upon them; so parents should fulfil this obligation for them from their wealth, so that they may be free from the burden of sins.

Imam al-Humaydi and Ibn Abi Umar both relate that Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated to us; he said: Ibrahim bin Uqbah, the brother of Musa bin Uqbah, narrated to me. Then he mentioned a hadith about the virtue of a child's Hajj, and said: When I narrated this hadith to Imam Muhammad bin al-Munkadir (may Allah have mercy on him), he (in view of this great virtue) performed Hajj together with all of his family members.
A noble scholarly point is derived from this narration: in the view of the righteous predecessors, the true fruit of knowledge was action. That is why, when Imam Muhammad bin al-Munkadir (may Allah have mercy on him) heard the narration about the virtue of a child's Hajj, he was not content with merely hearing it, but immediately set out with all the members of his household, young and old, to attain the blessing of the obligation of Hajj.

It is narrated from Imam al-Humaydi (may Allah have mercy on him) that Sufyan narrated to us; al-Munkadir bin Muhammad bin al-Munkadir informed him on the authority of his father (the renowned Successor Muhammad bin al-Munkadir, may Allah have mercy on him) that he was asked: "Do you also take small children with you to attain the blessing of Hajj?" He replied: "Yes, I (by keeping them with me on this blessed journey) present them before Allah, the Blessed and Exalted (so that they may grow up in the shade of His grace and generosity)."
This enlightening report makes a scholarly point clear: the righteous predecessors took special care, for the spiritual upbringing of children and for mercy to descend upon them, to take them from childhood to the rites of Islam and to sacred places such as those of Hajj, so that their souls might receive the nourishment of faith and they might be accepted in the court of Allah.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If a slave performs Hajj even ten times, one Hajj (after his freedom) remains obligatory upon him, provided he has the means for it; and if a Bedouin (desert Arab) performs Hajj ten times, one Hajj will be required of him after he emigrates, provided he has the means for it; and if a child performs Hajj even ten times, the Hajj of Islam (the obligatory Hajj) remains due from him once he reaches the age of reason and maturity, provided that he 'is able to find a way to it' [Surah Al Imran: 97], that is, he has the ability to reach there."
