Imam al-Humaydi and Ibn Abi Umar both relate that Sufyan bin Uyaynah narrated to us; he said: Ibrahim bin Uqbah, the brother of Musa bin Uqbah, narrated to me. Then he mentioned a hadith about the virtue of a child's Hajj, and said: When I narrated this hadith to Imam Muhammad bin al-Munkadir (may Allah have mercy on him), he (in view of this great virtue) performed Hajj together with all of his family members.
A noble scholarly point is derived from this narration: in the view of the righteous predecessors, the true fruit of knowledge was action. That is why, when Imam Muhammad bin al-Munkadir (may Allah have mercy on him) heard the narration about the virtue of a child's Hajj, he was not content with merely hearing it, but immediately set out with all the members of his household, young and old, to attain the blessing of the obligation of Hajj.
