How great a number will enter the Fire

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "On the Day of Resurrection Allah Almighty will say to Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him): 'Rise and send nine hundred and ninety-nine of your offspring to Hell, and send one to Paradise.'" The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) began to weep. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Raise your heads! By the One in whose Hand is my soul, the example of my Ummah compared with the other nations is like a white hair on the hide of a black bull." (The narrator states:) This comforted the people.
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is jayyid (good).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty will send a caller who will announce: 'O Adam, Allah Almighty commands you to send a particular group of your offspring to Hell.' Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him) will ask: 'O my Lord, how many?' It will be said to him: 'Ninety-nine out of every hundred.'" The narrator states: A man among those present said: "O Messenger of Allah, after this, who among us will be saved?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know? Your example compared with other people is like a mole on the chest of a camel."
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains Ibrahim bin Muslim al-Hajari, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) recited this verse while his Companions were with him (Allah Almighty says): "O people, fear your Lord; indeed, the quake of the Hour is a tremendous thing." He (peace and blessings be upon him) recited it to the end of the verse, then he said: "Do you know what day that is?" The people said: "Allah and His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) know best." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That will be a day on which Allah Almighty will say: 'O Adam, rise and send a particular group to Hell.' He will ask: 'How many in that group?' Allah Almighty will say: 'Out of every thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine will go to Hell and one will go to Paradise.'" The narrator states: This weighed very heavily on those present, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will be a quarter of the people of Paradise; I hope that you will be a third of the people of Paradise." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I hope that you will be half of the people of Paradise." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do good deeds and receive glad tidings, for you are between two kinds of creation which, whoever they are joined with, they make them greater in number: they are Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog). Compared with other people (the narrator is unsure, or perhaps the words are:) compared with other nations, your example is like a mole on the side of a camel, or like a raised mark on the foreleg of an animal. Indeed, my Ummah is one part out of a thousand parts."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Hilal bin Khabbab, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) states: This verse was revealed (Allah Almighty says): "O people, fear your Lord." The verse continues up to: "But the punishment of Allah Almighty is severe." This verse was revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during a journey. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his voice, until his Companions gathered around him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do you know what kind of day that will be? On that day Allah Almighty will say to Sayyiduna Adam (peace be upon him): 'Rise and send nine hundred and ninety-nine out of every thousand to Hell, and send one to Paradise.'" The narrator states: The Muslims were greatly distressed by this. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Keep to what is right, be moderate, and receive glad tidings! By the One in whose Hand is my soul, your example compared with other people is like a mole on the side of a camel, or a raised mark on the foreleg of an animal. With you are two kinds of creation which, whoever they are joined with, they make them greater in number: they are Ya'juj and Ma'juj (Gog and Magog), and those disbelievers among the jinn and mankind who have perished."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih except Muhammad bin Mahdi, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).
