بَابُ مَا يَقُولُ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ .

عَنْ عُبَادَةَ بْنِ الصَّامِتِ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ : " اللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ ، الْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ ، لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ خَيْرَ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّ ( الْقَدَرِ وَمِنْ سُوءِ ) الْمَحْشَرِ " . رَوَاهُ عَبْدُ اللَّهِ ، وَالطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ رَاوٍ لَمْ يُسَمَّ .
Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new crescent moon, he would recite:
'Allahu akbar, al-hamdu lillah, la hawla wa la quwwata illa billah. Allahumma inni as'aluka khayra hadhash-shahr, wa a'udhu bika min sharril-qadari wa min su'il-mahshar' (Allah is the Greatest; all praise belongs to Allah; nothing can happen except with the help of Allah Almighty. O Allah, I ask You for the good of this month, and I seek refuge in You from the evil of destiny and from an evil state at the Gathering (on the Day of Resurrection).)
Abdullah and al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain contains a narrator who is not named.

وَعَنْ رَافِعِ بْنِ خَدِيجٍ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ : " هِلَالُ خَيْرٍ وَرُشْدٍ " . ثُمَّ قَالَ : " ( اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذَا ثَلَاثًا ) ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ خَيْرِ هَذَا الشَّهْرِ ، وَخَيْرِ الْقَدَرِ ، وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنْ شَرِّهِ " . ثَلَاثَ مَرَّاتٍ . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new crescent moon, he would recite:
'Hilalu khayrin wa rushd'
(This is a crescent of goodness and right guidance.)
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite:
'Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayri hadha'
(O Allah, I ask You for its good.) He would recite this three times.
'Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayri hadhash-shahri wa khayril-qadar, wa a'udhu bika min sharrih'
(O Allah, I ask You for the good of this month and the good of destiny, and I seek refuge in You from its evil.) He would recite this three times.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
'Hilalu khayrin wa rushd'
(This is a crescent of goodness and right guidance.)
Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite:
'Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayri hadha'
(O Allah, I ask You for its good.) He would recite this three times.
'Allahumma inni as'aluka min khayri hadhash-shahri wa khayril-qadar, wa a'udhu bika min sharrih'
(O Allah, I ask You for the good of this month and the good of destiny, and I seek refuge in You from its evil.) He would recite this three times.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
وَعَنِ ابْنِ عُمَرَ قَالَ : كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ : " اللَّهُمَّ أَهِلَّهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ ، وَالتَّوْفِيقِ لِمَا تُحِبُّ وَتَرْضَى ، رَبُّنَا وَرَبُّكَ اللَّهُ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ عُثْمَانُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الْحَاطِبِيُّ ، وَفِيهِ ضَعْفٌ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new crescent moon, he would recite:
'Allahumma ahillahu 'alayna bil-amni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-islam, wat-tawfiqi lima tuhibbu wa tarda, rabbuna wa rabbukallah'
(O Allah, make it rise upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam, and with success in what You love and are pleased with. (O moon,) our Lord and your Lord is Allah Almighty.)
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Ibrahim al-Hatibi, in whom there is weakness, and the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ ، عَنِ النَّبِيِّ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - أَنَّهُ كَانَ إِذَا رَأَى الْهِلَالَ قَالَ : " هِلَالُ خَيْرٍ وَرُشْدٍ ، آمَنْتُ بِالَّذِي خَلَقَكَ فَعَدَلَكَ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَفِيهِ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عِيسَى اللَّخْمِيُّ وَلَمْ أَعْرِفْهُ ، وَبَقِيَّةُ رِجَالِهِ ثِقَاتٌ .
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports this about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): When he (peace and blessings be upon him) saw the new crescent moon, he would say: "May it be a crescent of goodness and right guidance; I believe in the One who created you and fashioned you well."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Ahmad bin Isa al-Lakhmi, whom I do not know, and the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

وَعَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ هِشَامٍ قَالَ : كَانَ أَصْحَابُ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ - صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ - يَتَعَلَّمُونَ هَذَا الدُّعَاءَ إِذَا دَخَلَتِ السَّنَةُ أَوِ الشَّهْرُ : " اللَّهُمَّ أَدْخِلْهُ عَلَيْنَا بِالْأَمْنِ وَالْإِيمَانِ ، وَالسَّلَامَةِ وَالْإِسْلَامِ ، وَرِضْوَانٍ مِنَ الرَّحْمَنِ ، وَجَوَازٍ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ " . رَوَاهُ الطَّبَرَانِيُّ فِي الْأَوْسَطِ ، وَإِسْنَادُهُ حَسَنٌ .
Abdullah bin Hisham narrates: The Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to learn this supplication, to recite when a new year or a new month began:
'Allahumma adkhilhu 'alayna bil-amni wal-iman, was-salamati wal-islam, wa ridwanin minar-Rahman, wa jawazin minash-shaytan' (O Allah, bring it upon us with security and faith, with safety and Islam, with the good pleasure of the Most Merciful and with protection from Satan.)
