'Allahumma antas-sahibu fis-safar, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl. Allahumma inni a'udhu bika minad-dibnati fis-safar, wal-ka'abati fil-munqalab. Allahumma iqbid lanal-ard, wa hawwin 'alaynas-safar' (O Allah, You are my Companion on the journey and the Guardian over my family. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from facing any want during the journey and any distressing situation on returning. O Allah, fold up the earth for us and make the journey easy for us.)
When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended to return, he would recite:
'Ayibuna, ta'ibuna, 'abiduna, li-rabbina hamidun'
((We are) returning, repenting, worshipping, and praising our Lord.)
When he (peace and blessings be upon him) came to his family, he would recite:
'Tawban tawban ila rabbina awban, la yughadiru 'alayna hawban'
(Repentance, repentance, and a return to our Lord; He will not leave any sin upon us.)
