Sayyiduna al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out on a journey, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would recite:
'Allahumma balaghan yuballighu khayran, maghfiratan minka wa ridwana, bi-yadikal-khayr, innaka 'ala kulli shay'in qadir. Allahumma antas-sahibu fis-safar, wal-khalifatu fil-ahl. Allahumma hawwin 'alaynas-safar, watwi lanal-ard. Allahumma a'udhu bika min wa'tha'is-safar wa ka'abatil-munqalab' (O Allah, (grant) an arrival that leads to good, in the form of forgiveness and pleasure from You. All good is in Your hand; indeed, You have power over all things. O Allah, You are my Companion on the journey and the Guardian of my family in my absence. O Allah, make the journey easy for us and fold up the earth for us. O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the hardship of the journey and from facing a distressing situation on returning.)
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Fitr bin Khalifah, who is thiqah (trustworthy).
