Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) states: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wrote a letter to a tribe of the Arabs, inviting them to Islam. Those people did not accept the letter. The people who had carried the letter returned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him about this, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Had I sent this letter to the people of the tribe of Azd Shanu'ah and of Aslam who live on the coast of Oman, they would have accepted it." The narrator states: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a letter to al-Julanda, inviting him to Islam, and he accepted Islam and accepted the letter. He also sent a gift to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); when the gift arrived, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had already passed away. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) treated that gift as inheritance and divided it between Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her) and Sayyiduna Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Umar bin Salih al-Azdi, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Bishr bin Ismah (may Allah be pleased with him), who is a Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), states: the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Azd are from me and I am from them. When they become angry, I too will become angry on their account, and when they are pleased, I too will be pleased on their account." The narrator states: Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said this about Quraysh." Sayyiduna Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Would I attribute a falsehood to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)? Had I wished to attribute a falsehood to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), I would have attributed it to my own people."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains narrators whom I do not know. Allamah al-Haythami says: Before this, in the narrations about the virtues of the various tribes, the virtue of Azd and other tribes has already been mentioned.
