Imam al-Tabarani states: He is Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Abi Jahl bin Hisham bin al-Mughirah bin Abdullah bin Umar bin Makhzum. His mother was Umm Mujalid, a woman from Banu Hilal. He accepted Islam in the year of the Conquest of Makkah, and he was martyred in the Battle of Yarmuk during the time of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him); according to one view, he was martyred in the Battle of Ajnadayn.

Mus'ab bin Abdullah al-Zubayri states: Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) bin Abi Jahl bin Hisham had no descendants. He had fled at the time of the Conquest of Makkah, until his wife obtained a guarantee of safety for him from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); that lady was Umm Hakim bint Hisham. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him safety, and she went to him in Yemen and brought him back to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw him, he rose and went towards him, embraced him and said: "Welcome to the emigrant rider."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is munqati' (broken).

Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Welcome to the emigrant rider, welcome to the emigrant rider." I said: O Messenger of Allah, whatever I spent against you (peace and blessings be upon him), I will now spend the same amount in the way of Allah. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam al-Tirmidhi recorded the words "Welcome to the emigrant rider" only once.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih; however, Mus'ab bin Sa'd did not meet Sayyiduna Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him).
