Ya'qub bin Abd al-Rahman al-Qari narrates: My father told me that Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) lived for one hundred and twenty years; he spent sixty years in Islam and sixty years of his life in the Jahiliyyah. Whenever he wanted to make an oath emphatic, he would say: No! By the One who blessed Hakim by not letting him be killed on the day of Badr, I will not do such and such; and he would not do it. His kunyah was "Abu Khalid".
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators up to the one who made the statement are thiqat (trustworthy).

Mus'ab bin Thabit states: By Allah, it has reached me that once Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) was present on the day of Arafah, and with him were one hundred slaves, one hundred camels, one hundred cows and one hundred goats. He said: All of this is dedicated to Allah Almighty. So he freed the slaves and gave orders concerning the animals, and they were sacrificed.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it as a mursal report, and its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.

It is reported about Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) that he sold a house of his to Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) for sixty thousand. The people said: By Allah, O Mu'awiyah, he has cheated you! Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, I acquired (this house) in the Jahiliyyah for a single skin of wine, and I call you to witness that this (entire sum) is dedicated to the way of Allah, to the needy and to freeing slaves. So which of us has been cheated?

Abu Hazim states: There was no one in Madinah of whom we heard that he provided more mounts in the way of Allah than Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator says: Once two Bedouins came to Madinah and asked who would provide them with mounts in the way of Allah. They were directed to Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him), so they came to Sayyiduna Hakim bin Hizam (may Allah be pleased with him), and he asked what they wanted. They told him, and Sayyiduna Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) said to them: Do not be hasty; I will come out to you. Sayyiduna Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) used to wear clothes brought to him from Egypt that were like netting, costing four dirhams. He would take a staff in his hand, and his two slaves would be with him. Whenever he passed by a rubbish heap and saw in it a piece of cloth that could be of use for the camels he was to give as mounts in the way of Allah, he would pick up that cloth with the tip of his staff, shake it out, and then say to his slaves: Hold on to this and use it for your equipment. While he was doing this, one of the two Bedouins said to the other: Woe to you, take us away from here! By Allah, all we will get from this man is the kind of thing one finds lying discarded. His companion said: Woe to you, do not be hasty until we have seen. Then Sayyiduna Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) took the two of them to the market, where he looked at two large, fat, fine she-camels. He bought them and bought their equipment, and then said to his slaves: With these rags, mend whatever of your equipment needs mending. Then Sayyiduna Hakim (may Allah be pleased with him) gave the two of them food, wheat and fat, provided them with money for expenses, and gave them the two she-camels as well. The narrator says: One of them said to the other: By Allah, I have never seen anyone better than this picker of rubbish today.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded it.
