Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From beneath these palm trees a man from the people of Paradise will appear before you." The narrator says: Then Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, and we congratulated him on what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. Then, after a little while, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From beneath these palm trees a man from the people of Paradise will appear." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared, and we congratulated him on what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had said. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "From beneath these palm trees a man from the people of Paradise will appear. O Allah, if You will, make him Ali!" He said this three times, and then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) appeared.

Imam Abu Ja'far Muhammad bin Ali (that is, Imam al-Baqir) narrates from his father, from his grandfather: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah Almighty loves three of your Companions, so you love them too: Ali bin Abi Talib, Abu Dharr and al-Miqdad bin al-Aswad. The narrator says: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Paradise longs for three of your Companions. At that time Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He hoped that this might be about some of the Ansar. He intended to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about these people, but out of awe he could not ask. He went out and met Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Abu Bakr, I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) just a little while ago, and Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to him and said: Paradise longs for three of your Companions. I hoped that it might be for someone from the Ansar, but out of awe I could not ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it. Would you like to go in to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it? He said: I fear that if I ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and I turn out not to be one of them, the people of my tribe will revile me. Then Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) met Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), and he too gave an answer like that of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator says: Then he met Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: Very well. If I am one of them, I will praise Allah Almighty, and if I am not one of them, I will still praise Allah Almighty. Then Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and submitted: Anas has told me that a little while ago he was with you, and Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to you and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Paradise longs for three of your Companions. So who are they, O Prophet of Allah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: O Ali, you are one of them; and Ammar bin Yasir, who will soon take part in some battles alongside you, through which his merit will become evident, and whose good is immense; and one is Salman, who is one of us, the People of the House, and he is sincere, so take him for yourself.
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains al-Nadr bin Humayd al-Kindi, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah Almighty loves three of your Companions, O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! Then he came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again and said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Paradise longs for three of your Companions. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I intended to ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about this, but out of awe I could not ask. I met Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and told him: O Abu Bakr, I was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Paradise longs for three people; so perhaps you are one of them. Then I met Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) and said something similar to him. Then I met Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) and said to him the same thing I had said to Sayyiduna Abu Bakr and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I will ask the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about it; if I am one of them, I will praise Allah Almighty, and even if I am not one of them, I will still praise Allah Almighty. Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Once the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was holding my hand and we were walking through one of the streets of Madinah, when we came to a garden. I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, how beautiful this garden is! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For you there is a garden in Paradise finer than this. Then we passed another garden, and I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, how beautiful this garden is! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: For you there is a garden in Paradise finer than this. This went on until we had passed seven gardens; about each one I said the same: How beautiful it is! And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept saying: For you in Paradise there is one more beautiful than this. When the road was clear for me, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) embraced me and then began to weep. I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, why are you weeping? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Because of the enmity that will be in the hearts of some people, which they will reveal to you after me. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I submitted: O Messenger of Allah, will my religion remain safe in that? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your religion will remain safe.
Abu Ya'la and al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains al-Fadl bin Umayrah, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy) and others declared da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and I were passing through the area of the gardens of Madinah. We passed by a garden, and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) submitted: O Messenger of Allah, how beautiful this garden is! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Your garden in Paradise is finer than this. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed with his blessed hand towards his head and beard, and then he began to weep, until the sound of his weeping rose. It was asked: Why are you weeping? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Because of the enmity that will be in the hearts of some people, and they will reveal that enmity to you when they find me gone.
