Reports on the poisoned sheep

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: A Jewish woman presented a poisoned goat (its meat) to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) as a gift. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent for her and said: "Why did you do this?" She said: "I wanted, (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) I liked, that if you were a prophet, Allah Almighty would inform you of it, and if you were not a prophet, I would relieve the people of you." The narrator says: Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) felt pain from it, he would have himself cupped. Once he was travelling, and he had entered the state of ihram; he felt pain, so he had himself cupped.
Ahmad recorded it, and the narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih, except Hilal bin Khabbab, and he is thiqah (trustworthy).

A similar narration is transmitted from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him), but in it these words are additional: "A Jewish woman gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) a goat (its meat) as a gift, in which poison had been mixed. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stretched out his hand towards that meat to eat, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'One of its limbs has told me that poison has been mixed into it.' So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his companions held back from it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message summoning that woman and asked: 'Why did you do this, spoiling it after you had prepared it well?' She said: 'I wanted to know: if you are a prophet, you would come to know of it, and if you were not a prophet, I would relieve the people of you.'"
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Mubarak bin Fadalah; he is thiqah (trustworthy), and there is weakness in him.

Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Jewish woman gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) poisoned goat meat as a gift. When the people stretched out their hands, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold back! For one of its limbs has told me that poison has been mixed into it." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message summoning that woman and asked: "Did you mix poison into this food of yours?" She replied: "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why did you do this?" She said: "I intended that if you were a liar, I would relieve the people of you, and if you were truthful, I knew that Allah Almighty would inform you of it." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stretched out his hand and said: "Eat, taking the name of Allah!" The narrator says: We ate it and also took the name of Allah, and it did not harm any of us.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A Jewish woman gave the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) goat meat as a gift at Khaybar, which was roasted. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to her: "What is this?" She said: "This is a gift," and she avoided saying that it was charity. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions began eating it. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Hold back!" Then he asked the woman: "Did you mix poison into it?" The woman asked: "Who told you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This bone," saying this while pointing to the goat's shank, which was in his hand. The woman said: "Yes!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why (that is, why did you do this)?" She said: "I thought that if you were a liar, the people would be relieved of you, and if you were a prophet, it would not harm you." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had himself cupped, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered his Companions and they too had themselves cupped; one of those Companions also passed away. Al-Zuhri narrates: That woman had accepted Islam, and people say that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had that woman put to death.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Ahmad bin Bakr al-Balisi, whom Ibn Hibban declared thiqah (trustworthy), and he says: He makes mistakes; Ibn Adi declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this narration are the narrators of the Sahih.

Yahya bin Abd al-Rahman bin Labibah transmits from his father the statement of his grandfather: Goat meat was presented to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which was roasted and into which poison had been mixed. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Bishr bin al-Bara' bin Ma'rur (may Allah be pleased with him) ate some of that meat, and both of them became severely ill. Sayyiduna Bishr (may Allah be pleased with him) passed away. When he passed away, he (peace and blessings be upon him) sent a message summoning the Jewish woman who had sent it to him as a gift, and he said: "Woe to you! What have you fed us?" She said: "I fed you poison." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why did you do this?" She said: "I heard you mentioning that you are a prophet, so I knew that it would not harm you; and if you were not a prophet, I had intended to relieve the people of you." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order concerning that woman, and she was crucified.
Al-Tabarani recorded it. As for the narrator Yahya: if he is Ibn Abi Labibah, then Imam al-Dhahabi has mentioned him in "Mizan al-I'tidal", and if he is Ibn Labibah, then I do not know him.

Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would not eat any gift until he instructed the person who brought it to eat some of it himself; this was because of the goat that was given to him as a gift at Khaybar.
Al-Bazzar recorded it from his teacher Ibrahim bin Abdullah al-Makhrami, whom al-Isma'ili declared thiqah (trustworthy) and al-Daraqutni declared da'if (weak); its chain also contains a narrator whom I do not know. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Before this, in the chapter on the Battle of Khaybar, the mursal narration transmitted by Urwah has already passed.
