Sayyiduna Ja'dah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when he saw a fat man. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed to his belly with his hand and said: "If this were somewhere other than this place, it would have been better for you." The narrator said: A man was brought to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the people said: "This man intended to kill you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "Do not be afraid, do not be afraid. Even if you had wanted that, Allah Almighty would not have given you power over me."
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and at-Tabarani in abridged form; its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Abu Isra'il al-Jushami, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

He asked: "Who are you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I am the Messenger of Allah." He said: "When will the Hour come?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is something unseen, and no one knows the unseen except Allah." He asked: "When will the clouds send down rain?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is unseen, and no one knows the unseen except Allah Almighty." He asked: "What is in the womb of my mare?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is unseen, and no one knows the unseen except Allah Almighty." He said: "Give me this sword of yours." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Here, take it." He took the sword, drew it and brandished it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "You will not be able to do what you intended." Then he explained: "This man came, having thought: I will go to him and question him, and then take hold of my sword and kill him." Then he sheathed the sword.

Qays bin Habtar narrates: The daughter of al-Hakam said: I said to my grandfather: "O Banu Umayyah, I have not seen any people more helpless than you, or holding a worse opinion, concerning the Messenger of Allah." He said: "O my daughter, do not blame us. I will tell you only what I saw with these two eyes of mine. We thought: by Allah, we keep hearing about Quraysh that they are being overpowered by this renegade in our mosque. So we decided to do something together, and we agreed upon something regarding it. When we saw him, we heard some voices that made us think that no horse would be left in Tihamah except that it was coming towards us. We could not make sense of anything until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) completed his prayer and went back to his home. Then we made a plan for another night. When he came, we advanced towards him, and I saw the mountains of Safa and Marwah join with one another and become a barrier between us and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). By Allah, that (attempt) did us no good."
At-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except the daughter of al-Hakam, whom I do not know.

Sayyiduna al-Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day I was in the mosque when Abu Jahl came and said: "I have vowed to Allah Almighty that if I see Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) in prostration, I will put my foot on his neck." Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I got up from there, came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him what Abu Jahl had said. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out in a state of anger and went to the mosque. He was in too much of a hurry to enter by the door, so he climbed over the wall. I said: "This is a day of evil." I too tied my waist-wrapper and went after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered reciting this surah: "Read in the name of your Lord who created; He created man from a clinging clot." When he reached the part that concerned Abu Jahl: "Indeed, man transgresses because he sees himself self-sufficient," someone said to Abu Jahl: "O Abu al-Hakam, here is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "Do you not see what I see? By Allah, the horizon of the sky has been blocked before me." The narrator said: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the end of the surah, he went into prostration.
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Ishaq bin Abi Farwah, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Some of the chiefs of Quraysh gathered in the Hijr (Hatim), and they swore by al-Lat, al-Uzza, Manat, Isaf and Na'ilah and agreed: "If we see Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), we will rise and go to him as people go towards someone together, and we will not leave him until we have killed him." The daughter of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), Sayyidah Fatimah (may Allah be pleased with her), came weeping to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "These men of Quraysh have agreed against you that if they see you, they will rise, come to you and kill you, so that every one of them has a share in your killing." The narrator said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O my daughter, bring me water for ablution." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution and came to those people in the mosque. When they saw him, they said: "Here he is," and they lowered their gazes; their chins dropped onto their chests, and they remained sitting with their heads bowed. They did not raise their eyes to look at the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and not one of them rose and came towards the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came forward until he stood over their heads. He took a handful of dust and said: "May these faces be disgraced," and then he threw the pebbles at them. Those pebbles struck every one of them, and whoever they struck was killed as a disbeliever on the day of the Battle of Badr.
Imam Ahmad recorded it with two chains, the narrators of one of which are the narrators of the Sahih. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: hadiths of this kind have already passed in the Book of Military Expeditions, concerning the Prophet's (peace and blessings be upon him) conveying of the message and his patience in that regard.
