Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates: A neighbour of Sayyidah Khadijah bint Khuwaylid (may Allah be pleased with her) told me that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say to Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her): "O Khadijah, by Allah, I will never worship 'al-Lat'; by Allah, I will never worship al-Uzza." The narrator said: Sayyidah Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "Leave al-Uzza alone." The narrator said: These were the idols of those people, which they would worship and then lie down.
Imam Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I have nothing to do with falsehood, nor does falsehood have anything to do with me." Abu Muhammad Yahya bin Muhammad bin Qays said: It means that I have no connection with falsehood, and falsehood has no connection with me.
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and at-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains Yahya bin Muhammad bin Qays, who has been declared trustworthy, but they have listed this hadith among his munkar (denounced) narrations, and Allah knows best. Al-Dhahabi said: Others have corroborated him in it.
Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I have nothing to do with falsehood, and falsehood has nothing to do with me."
At-Tabarani recorded it from Muhammad bin Ahmad bin Nasr al-Tirmidhi, from Muhammad bin Abd al-Wahhab al-Azhari, and I do not know either of them; the remaining narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Ali bin Abi Talib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "I never intended to do any of the deeds that the people of the Age of Ignorance used to do, except on two occasions, and each time Allah Almighty became a barrier between me and what I intended. After that I never intended anything of that kind, until Allah Almighty honoured me with His Messengership."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Ammar bin Yasir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: People asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Did you ever commit any forbidden act in the Age of Ignorance?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No. I was faced with such a situation on two occasions in this regard: on one occasion sleep overcame me, and on the other occasion my people became a barrier between me and that intention."
At-Tabarani recorded it in all three books, and its chain contains narrators whom I do not know. In al-Awsat he recorded it thus: It is reported from Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him): People asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Did you commit anything forbidden with regard to women?"
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to attend the gatherings of the polytheists along with them. The narrator said: Once he heard the voices of two angels behind him; one of them was saying to the other: "Come with us so that we may stand behind the Messenger of Allah." The other said: "How can we stand behind him when he touched the idols only a little while ago?" The narrator said: After that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) never again attended the gatherings of the polytheists with them.
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Aqil, and this cannot be accepted from someone like him, unless (it is understood that) he attended those gatherings in order to denounce them, and this is a plausible explanation. The remaining narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: One day I was performing tawaf with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and I touched one of the idols. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to me: "Do not touch it." The narrator said: After this he mentioned the complete narration.
At-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih. This explains what has passed before, that the presence of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) there was in order to denounce those people.
