Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Abu Jahl said: "If I see Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) praying near the Ka'bah, I will go to him and put my foot on his neck." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If he had done that, the angels would have seized him openly. If the Jews were to wish for death, they would die at that very moment and see their places in Hell. And as for those who came out to engage in mutual imprecation (mubahalah) with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), had they done it, then when they went back they would have found nothing of their families or their wealth." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: the opening part of this narration is mentioned in the Sahih.
Imam Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and the narrators of Abu Ya'la are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: Abu Jahl said: "Did I not forbid you?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) rebuked him. He said: "O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), why are you rebuking me? By Allah, you will not know of anyone who has more people sitting with him than I do." The narrator said: Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) said: "Then let him call his associates." Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: By Allah, if that man had called his associates, the angels would have seized him with punishment. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: part of it is mentioned in the Sahih.
Imam Ahmad recorded it via Dhakwan from Ikrimah, and I do not know Dhakwan; the remaining narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A group of the polytheists were around the Ka'bah, and among them was Abu Jahl, may Allah curse him. Meanwhile the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came; he came up to those people and stood by them, and he said: "May these faces be disfigured!" Then all of those people were struck dumb; not one of them said a word. The narrator says: I saw Abu Jahl begin to offer excuses before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he said: "Leave us alone." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I will not leave you alone; rather, I will kill you." Abu Jahl said: "Will you be able to do that?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah Almighty will have you killed."
Al-Bazzar recorded it from his teacher Ali bin Shabib, and I do not know him; the rest of its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Samurah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Indeed, Satan came to me and began throwing sparks of fire at me. Had it not been for the supplication of my brother Sayyiduna Sulayman (peace be upon him), I would have seized him."
Al-Bazzar recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "I entered the house and there was a devil behind the door. I began to strangle him, until I felt the coolness of his tongue on my hand. Had it not been for the supplication of a righteous servant, he would have been tied up by the morning and people would have seen him."
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in prostration in Makkah. Meanwhile Satan came, intending to tread on his (peace and blessings be upon him) neck, so Sayyiduna Jibril (peace be upon him) blew at him; he blew at him with his wings, and he could not get his feet steady on the ground until he reached Jordan.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Uthman bin Matar, and he is da'if (weak).
