Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) transmits this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Whoever acquires knowledge of the Qur'an, it is as though prophethood (its blessings and bounties) were placed between his two sides, except that revelation is not sent to him. And whoever recites the Qur'an and then thinks that someone else has a blessing more excellent than the blessing he has been given has magnified what Allah has made small, and made small what Allah Almighty has made great. It is not fitting for the scholar of the Qur'an to behave foolishly like others, or to show anger like others, or to display rage in any matter; rather, he should forgive and overlook, and he should do so because of the excellence of the Qur'an."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Isma'il bin Rafi', who is matruk (abandoned).
