Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that he went out on the day of Uhud, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wanted to send him back, considering him too young. The narrator says: My uncle said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! He is an archer." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) allowed him to go. An arrow struck him in the chest or the throat. His uncle came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "My nephew has been struck by an arrow." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you leave it in him and he dies, he will die a martyr." A narrator named Abdullah bin Husayn says: His wife told me that she used to see it: when he was bathing, the arrow would move in his chest.

So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission. An arrow struck him in the throat, and his uncle brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "My nephew has been struck by an arrow." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you would like to have it taken out, we will take it out; and if you like, leave it as it is, for in that case, whenever he dies with this arrow inside him, he will die a martyr."
