Majma al-Zawaid — Hadith 10061

Sayyiduna Usayd bin Zuhayr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Uhud, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) considered Sayyiduna Rafi' bin Khadij (may Allah be pleased with him) too young. His uncle, Sayyiduna Usayd bin Zuhayr (may Allah be pleased with him), said to him: "O Messenger of Allah! This man is an archer." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave him permission. An arrow struck him in the throat, and his uncle brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "My nephew has been struck by an arrow." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "If you would like to have it taken out, we will take it out; and if you like, leave it as it is, for in that case, whenever he dies with this arrow inside him, he will die a martyr."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
