Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Ali! Perform ablution thoroughly, even if it is hard on you; do not eat charity (sadaqah); do not have donkeys mate with horses; and do not sit with the astrologers." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on them) recorded from it the part about mating donkeys with horses.
Abdullah bin Ahmad recorded it. Its chain contains Harun bin Muslim, the henna seller (Sahib al-Hinna'); Abu Hatim declared him weak and al-Hakim declared him thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I set out from Madinah with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned and looked back towards Madinah and said: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has freed this peninsula from shirk (associating partners with Allah)."

In one narration the words are: "Indeed, Allah Almighty has purified this town of shirk (associating partners with Allah), so long as the stars (or astrology) do not lead them astray."
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir and al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and al-Thawri declared thiqah (trustworthy), while (other) people declared him da'if (weak); the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade looking into the stars (that is, learning astrology or being involved with it).
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Its chain contains Uqbah bin Abdullah al-Asamm, who is da'if (weak). It is mentioned from Imam Ahmad that he declared him trustworthy, and Abu Hatim regarded this hadith from this narrator as munkar (objectionable).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Many a teacher of the letters of Abjad who studies the stars will have no share with Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection."
Al-Tabarani recorded it. Its chain contains Khalid bin Yazid al-Umari, who is a kadhdhab (liar).
