He sat on a large bench of his in his house and said to his slave: O boy, take the horses to water! The narrator says: In the house there was a stone trough. So he took them to water. Then he asked: Where is so-and-so (a mare)? He said: She has mange and is dripping blood (or he said: dripping water); the narrator Abu Ishaq is in doubt about this. He said: Take her to water as well. One of those present said: In that case all the horses will catch mange. He said: Take her to water, for I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "There is no reality to contagion, to evil omens or to the hamah. Have you not seen the camel that is in the desert, and in the morning there is an affliction in its chest (or in its belly) which it did not have before? So who infected the first one?"
