Ghubaira', fadikh, mixed drinks and tila'

Sayyiduna Qays bin Sa'd bin Ubadah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Indeed, my Lord has forbidden me wine, and has forbidden the kubah (drum) and the qinnin (a particular Roman game of gambling); and beware of the ghubayra, for it is one third of the wines of the whole world."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ubaydullah bin Zahr. Abu Zur'ah and Imam al-Nasa'i (may Allah have mercy on him) declared him thiqah (trustworthy), and the majority declared him da'if (weak).

Sayyidah Umm Habibah bint Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: Some people from Yemen came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught them the prayer, the Sunnahs and the obligations. Then they said: "O Messenger of Allah! We have a drink that we prepare from wheat and barley." The narrator says: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "The ghubayra?" They said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not consume it." Two days later they mentioned it again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The ghubayra?" They said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not consume it." Then, when they intended to depart, they asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) again, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The ghubayra?" They said: "Yes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not consume it." They said: "People will not give it up." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever does not give it up, strike his neck."
Ahmad, Abu Ya'la and al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, whose hadith is hasan (good). The remaining narrators of Ahmad are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: In those days our wine was fadikh (a drink made from dates), and on the day it was forbidden, it was fadikh that was being used.
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) reports this as a marfu' hadith (the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said): "Whoever dies with the smell of fadikh in his stomach, Allah Almighty will disgrace him before all creation on the Day of Resurrection."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Mubarak Abu Amr, whom I do not know. The remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

It is reported about Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he was asked about drink, and he said: "We were in Madinah, where dates were plentiful, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade fadikh."

In one narration the words are: "So I began pouring it out, saying as I did so: 'This was the last dealing with wine.'"
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Abu Talhah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade mixing two kinds of drink (or preparing a drink by mixing two kinds of things).
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Rudayh, whom Yahya bin Ma'in declared thiqah (trustworthy). Abu Hatim declared him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

It is reported about Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he used to prepare nabidh of fresh dates separately and nabidh of dry dates separately, and he would say: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Prepare the nabidh of each of them separately."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Mas'ud Abd al-Rahman bin al-Hasan, whom Abu Hatim declared da'if (weak) and others declared thiqah (trustworthy). The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abu Usayd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade combining dates and raisins (that is, preparing nabidh by mixing the two).
Al-Tabarani recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Ma'bad bin Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports the statement of his mother, a woman who had prayed facing both qiblahs behind the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). She narrates: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding mixing dates and raisins (to prepare nabidh), and I heard him say: "Prepare the nabidh of each of them separately."
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Ishaq, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but a mudallis; the remaining narrators of this report are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Ma'bad bin Ka'b bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) reports the statement of his mother, who had prayed facing both qiblahs. She narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not prepare nabidh of dates and raisins together; prepare the nabidh of each of them separately."
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Ishaq, who is thiqah (trustworthy) but a mudallis.

Sayyidah Umm Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates that she heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbidding mixing two things (to prepare nabidh). I asked: "What were those two things?" The reply was: "Dates and raisins." Sayyidah Umm Mughith (may Allah be pleased with her) was the grandmother of Rabi'ah bin Abi Abd al-Rahman, and she prayed facing both qiblahs in the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
Al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ishaq bin Abdullah bin Abi Farwah, who is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first way in which Islam will be overturned, as a vessel is overturned, will be through a drink called tila."
Abu Ya'la recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Furat bin Sulayman. Ahmad says: "He is thiqah (trustworthy)." Ibn Adi mentioned him and said: "I have not seen anyone who explicitly declared him weak, and I hope there is no harm in him." The remaining narrators of this report are the narrators of the Sahih.
