Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had a document written between the Muhajirun and the Ansar that they would pay their blood money, ransom their absent one in a fair manner, and bring about reconciliation among the Muslims.
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains al-Hajjaj bin Artah, who is a mudallis, but he is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Mukhawwal al-Bahdhi (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I had set some snares at al-Abwa', and a deer was caught in them, but then it escaped and a man caught it. He and I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and neither of us had it in his hand to the exclusion of the other, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) divided it between us.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains Muhammad bin Sulayman bin Masmul, who is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Ubaydullah bin Abbas bin Abd al-Muttalib (may Allah be pleased with him), the brother of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), narrates: Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) had a drainpipe that lay on the route of Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) (during his caliphate). Once, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) put on his special clothes on Friday; on that same day two birds had been slaughtered for Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) reached the drainpipe, the blood of the two birds came flowing out of it with water and struck Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) ordered the drainpipe to be pulled out. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went back, took off his clothes, put on other clothes, then came and led the people in prayer. (After the prayer) Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came to him and said: By Allah, this drainpipe was fixed at the place where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had fixed it. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him): I urge you to climb on my back and put that drainpipe in the very place where the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had fixed it. And Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) did so.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy), except that the narrator Hisham bin Sa'd did not hear from Sayyiduna Ubaydullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both); and Allah knows best.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) passed away and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was made caliph, Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) disagreed about some things that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had left behind. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A thing that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) left behind and did not alter, I will not alter either. When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was made caliph, the two of them brought their case to him, and he too said: A thing that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) did not alter, I will not alter either. When Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) was made caliph, the two of them presented their case before him; Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) remained silent and lowered his head. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: I feared that he would take that thing into his own possession, so I placed my hand between the shoulders of Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O my father, I adjure you to hand this over to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him). So Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) handed it over to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

An elder of Quraysh from Banu Taym narrated: So-and-so, so-and-so and so-and-so, until he counted six or seven people, all of them from Quraysh, among them Sayyiduna Abdullah bin al-Zubayr (may Allah be pleased with them both), narrated this to me; he said: Once we were sitting with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) when Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) came in, their voices raised (that is, they were arguing with each other). Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Stop, O Abbas! I know what you will say: that half the wealth of my nephew should come to me. And O Ali, I also know what you will say. You will say: His daughter is my wife, so half the wealth should go to her. All of this was in the possession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we saw how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used it. After him, Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) became its custodian, and he used all of it according to the way of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). After Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), I became its custodian, and I swear by the name of Allah that I will strive my utmost to act in this matter according to the way of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and the way of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). The narrator Muhammad says: (Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith to me, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) swore by the name of Allah that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was truthful, that he heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "A prophet is not inherited from; his inheritance goes to the poor and the needy among the Muslims." Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated a hadith to me, then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) swore that Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) was truthful, and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) stated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A prophet does not pass away until some member of his Ummah has led him in prayer." (Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said:) These are the things that were in the possession of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and we saw how the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used them. If you both wish, give me your undertaking that you will act in this matter according to the way of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), so that I may hand it over to you. The narrator says: They then got up and withdrew; then the two of them came back, and Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Hand it over to Ali, for I give it to him willingly.
Ahmad recorded it; its chain contains a narrator who is not named, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Ibn Sirin narrates: Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "If you were to search from Jabars to Jabalq, you would not find anyone other than me and my brother (that is, Sayyiduna Imam Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him)) whose maternal grandfather is a 'Prophet'. And I think that you should unite upon Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) (in his caliphate); it may be that this too is a trial for you and an enjoyment for a fixed time." The narrator Ma'mar says: Jabars and Jabalq mean the East and the West.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Imam al-Sha'bi narrates: I was present with Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both) at al-Nukhaylah when Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) made peace with him. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: "Since this has happened, stand up and speak, and tell the people that you have handed the rule over to me." Here the narrator Sufyan sometimes reported the words: "Tell the people about this matter which you have relinquished." So Sayyiduna Imam Hasan (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up. He delivered a sermon from the pulpit, praising and extolling Allah Almighty. Imam al-Sha'bi says: I was listening to this. Then he said: "Now then! The greatest wisdom is piety, and the greatest folly is sinfulness. As for this matter over which there was a dispute between me and Mu'awiyah: if it was my right, then I am leaving it for Mu'awiyah so that there may be betterment within this Ummah and the shedding of their blood may stop; and if it was the right of someone who has more right to it than me, then I have done so (and given it up). I do not know; perhaps this situation too is a trial for you and an enjoyment for a fixed time."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Mujalid bin Sa'id, about whom there is criticism, though he has been declared trustworthy; the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: When the day came on which Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) were to meet at Dumat al-Jandal, Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) said to me: "It is not fitting for you to stay behind from a reconciliation through which Allah Almighty will bring about peace within the Ummah of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). You are a relative by marriage of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and you are the son of Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him)." That day Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) came riding a large Bactrian camel and said: "Who has ambitions for this matter? Who hopes for it? And who stretches his neck towards it?" Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) says: Never before that day had I thought about worldly matters in my heart, but at that moment I wanted to say: "The one who has hopes for it is the one who fought you and your father for the sake of Islam until he brought you both into Islam." But then I remembered Paradise and its blessings, so I turned away from it.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). It appears that what is meant is the reconciliation of Sayyiduna Imam Hasan bin Ali (may Allah be pleased with them both), not that of Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and the narrator was mistaken about this.

Suhayb, the freed slave of Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him), narrates: Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) sent me to Sayyiduna Uthman al-Ghani (may Allah be pleased with him) so that I could bring him. I came to Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) and he was feeding people. I called him, and he came to Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: "O Abu al-Fadl! May your face be successful" (i.e. he prayed for him). Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Commander of the Believers! Your face too (may it be successful)." Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) explained: "When your messenger came to me I was feeding people, so as soon as I had fed them I came to you." Sayyiduna al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "I implore you by Allah concerning Ali. He is your cousin, your brother in religion, your companion in the company of the Prophet, and he is also your relative by marriage. It has reached me that you intend to take action against Ali and his companions, so spare me that, O Commander of the Believers!" Sayyiduna Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "The first answer I give you is that I have accepted your intercession concerning Ali. If Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had wished, no one would have been ahead of him, but he insisted on nothing except his own opinion." Then he sent a message to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him): "I implore you by Allah regarding your cousin, the son of your paternal aunt, your brother in religion, your companion in the company of the Messenger, and the guardian of your pledge of allegiance." Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "By Allah! If he were to order me to leave my house, I would leave."

I said: "Will you not protect me from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him)?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What has happened?" I said: "A man came to me and hid behind me. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said: 'Move away from in front of him, or else I will strike you with a spear.'
