Sayyiduna Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to a person who was owed a right: "Take your right with restraint (that is, in a decent manner), whether it is paid in full or not paid in full."
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Dawud bin Abd al-Jabbar, who is matruk (abandoned).

Hadith Takhrij«اخرجه الطبراني فى المعجم الكبير (2295) ، أخرجه المعجم الكبير للطبراني برقم: 2295»
Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out from Madinah towards the polytheists to fight them. My father said to me: "O Jabir! There is no harm for you if you stay in Madinah and watch, until you learn what our outcome is. By Allah! Were I not concerned that I am leaving daughters behind me, I would have loved for you to be martyred in front of me." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I was among those waiting in Madinah when my paternal aunt came bringing the bodies of my father and my maternal uncle; the two of them were on a camel. She had brought them to Madinah so that we could bury them in our graveyard. Meanwhile a man came and announced: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commands you to take the slain back and to bury them where they were martyred." So we took them back and buried the two of them where they had been martyred. (Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:) During the caliphate of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him), a man came to me and said: "O Jabir bin Abdullah! The officials of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) have disturbed your father's grave, and his body has become exposed." The narrator says: I went there and found him exactly as I had buried him; nothing had changed in him, except what killing leaves behind (here the narrator is uncertain about one word). Then I covered him over. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: My father had left a debt of dates owed by him, and his creditors were harsh with me in demanding it. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Prophet of Allah! My father was martyred on such-and-such an occasion, and he owed a debt of dates, and some of his creditors have been harsh with me in demanding it. I would like you to help me in this; perhaps they will grant me respite until the next date harvest comes." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Very well; if Allah wills, I will come to you around midday." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, and his disciples were with him. He asked permission to enter and then came in. I had said to my wife: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is coming today, so let me not see that you have done anything in my house that causes hurt to the Messenger of Allah, and do not say anything at all to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came in; that woman spread out bedding for him and placed a pillow; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) laid down his head and fell asleep. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I said to my servant: "Slaughter this young goat," which was plump, "and do it quickly and swiftly; finish this task before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wakes up, and I will help you." He kept at it until we had finished, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) remained asleep all the while. I said to him: "When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) wakes up, he will ask for water for ablution, and my wish is that when he gets up and finishes, the food should be in front of him by the time he finishes his ablution." When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) got up, he said: "O Jabir! Bring me water for my ablution." He had not yet finished his ablution when the meat was placed in front of him. He looked at me and said: "You knew that we love meat. Call Abu Bakr to me." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Then those companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who had been with him earlier also came, and they entered. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gestured with his blessed hand and said: "Begin eating with the name of Allah." They ate until they were full, and still a great deal of meat was left over. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah! In the gathering of Banu Salimah, the people were looking at him, and he was dearer to them than their own eyes, yet none of them came near him, out of fear of causing him hurt. When he finished, he stood up and his companions stood up too; they went out ahead of him, and he said: "Leave the space behind me for the angels." I followed them until, when they reached the threshold of the door, my wife put out her face from behind the curtain of the house and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Pray for mercy for me and for my husband; may Allah Almighty send blessings upon you." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah Almighty send mercy upon you and upon your husband!" Then he said: "Call so-and-so to me." This was about the creditor who had been harsh with me in his demand. Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The man came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Grant ease to Jabir bin Abdullah until he finds the means, regarding the debt that his father owed; grant this ease until the time of the next date harvest comes." The man said: "I will not do so." He made an excuse and said: "This is the wealth of orphans." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Where is Jabir?" Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "O Messenger of Allah! Here I am." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Measure it out for him; Allah Almighty will make it pay off in full." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I looked at the sky, and the sun was about to decline. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Bakr! It is time for the prayer." These men went off to the mosque. I said: "Bring your container forward." Then I began measuring out Ajwah dates to him, and Allah Almighty made it pay him off in full, and still such-and-such an amount of dates was left over for us. I came running to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in the mosque, as if I were a spark. I found the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah! Have you seen that I measured out dates to my creditor, and Allah Almighty made it pay off in full, and still such-and-such an amount of dates was left over for us?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Where is Umar bin al-Khattab?" He came hurrying, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask Jabir bin Abdullah about his creditor and his dates." He said: "I will not ask him, for I knew that Allah Almighty would make it pay off in full, since you had stated that Allah Almighty would make it pay off in full." This exchange took place three times, and each time Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) replied: "I will not ask him." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was not referred back to after the third time. So Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: "O Jabir! What happened with your creditor and the dates?" Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I told him that Allah Almighty had made it pay off in full, and still such-and-such an amount of dates was left over for us. Then Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) went back to his wife and said: "Did I not forbid you from speaking to the Messenger of Allah?" She said: "Do you think that Allah Almighty would bring His Messenger to my house and that he (peace and blessings be upon him) would then just leave, without my asking him to pray for mercy for me and for my husband before he left?" (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is recorded in the Sahih and in other books in abridged form.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih, except Nubayh al-Anazi, who is thiqah (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: When the time of the Battle of Uhud came, my father called me and said to me: "My thought about myself is that tomorrow I will be among the first of the companions of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to be martyred. I am not leaving behind anyone dearer to me than you, after the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). I owe some debt, and you have sisters; so accept my counsel to treat them well, and pay off my debt on my behalf." (Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:) He was among the first of the companions of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) to be martyred. I buried him, and buried another man with him in one grave. I had some unease in my mind about his grave, so after six months had passed I took out his body, and it was just as it had been on the day I buried him, except that the place near his ear had changed somewhat. When we returned to Madinah, it was said to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that a creditor of Sayyiduna Abdullah (Sayyiduna Jabir's father) was being harsh with Jabir. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came, walking on foot ahead of Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He said (to the creditor): "Take part of it, and defer part of it until the dates of next year come." The man refused. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) was harsh with that man and said: "I see that the Messenger of Allah is telling you to take part of it and defer part of it, and still you refuse!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Umar! Stop. The one who is owed a right also has the right to speak." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) walked around the date palms, and then he said: "Pay him in full, and when you harvest the dates, let me know." I said: "O Messenger of Allah! My thought is that you should take your midday rest with us." I spread out bedding for him in our shelter, and then went to our goat to slaughter it. Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) went off to keep the people from coming to him. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up, I presented the food to him, and he ate it. When he was about to leave, my wife put her head and face out from behind the curtain and said: "O Messenger of Allah! You are about to leave, and you have not made any supplication for us at all!" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "I consider this woman to be sensible" (the narrator is uncertain; perhaps the words are:) "more sensible than you." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for us and then left. When I harvested the dates, I paid in full, and still seven wasq were left over for us. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and told him, and he said: "Call Umar bin al-Khattab to me." Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ask him." He said: "By Allah, O Messenger of Allah! Had you not said, 'Ask him,' I would not have asked him, because I had come to know that the supplication of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would be blessed for him and would be answered in his favour." Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) turned to me and asked me, and I told him the whole account. (Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates:) When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) became caliph, fixed the stipends, began recording names in the register, and appointed various people as 'arif (leaders over groups), he made me the 'arif over my companions. Then that man who had demanded payment came, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave him a smaller share than his other companions. I spoke to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) about it, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Do you not remember what this man did regarding Abdullah's debt?" But I kept on speaking to him until Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) placed that man together with his companions as well. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: This narration is recorded in the Sahih and in other books in abridged form.
At-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy). He also recorded it through another chain, which is the narration recorded by Ahmad that has already passed.

He recorded this narration through another chain, whose narrators are the narrators of the Sahih: (That narration is as follows:) Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I owed a man some Ajwah dates, and my date palms did not have enough dates to pay in full. I went to that man and spoke to him about it, but he refused to give me respite, or refused to accept payment on that basis. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) spoke with that man and said: "O so-and-so! Take (some) from Jabir and defer some." He refused to accept this, and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) wanted to strike him. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Stop! It is his right." Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him): "Take us with you to your date orchard." I walked along with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) entered the date orchard. He began looking over the date palms, and then said: "O Jabir! When you pick the fruit of your date palms, let me know." Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I picked the fruit of my date palms and paid that man in full, and still ten wasq (the narrator is uncertain; perhaps the words are:) fifteen wasq were left over with me. After this, the narrator mentioned the complete hadith.
