Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade shighar, the sale of majar, the sale involving uncertainty (gharar), the sale of kali' for kali', and the sale of deferred for prompt. The narrator says: Majar means what is in the wombs (of animals). The sale involving uncertainty means that you sell something which you do not have. Kali' for kali' means a debt sold for a debt. The deferred for the prompt is that a man owes you a thousand dirhams, and he says, "I will pay you five hundred dirhams promptly, and you let go of the rest." Shighar is that a woman is married in exchange for a woman, with no dowry (mahr) between them. (Al-Haythami says:) I say: Part of this narration is reported in the "Sahih".
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Musa bin Ubaydah, and he is da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not bid falsely against one another (najash), do not make the touch-sale (mulamasah), do not make sales involving uncertainty (gharar), and let no town-dweller sell for a desert-dweller. Whoever buys a muhaffalah goat (whose milk has been left in its udder) may milk it for three days; then, if he wishes, he may return it along with a sa' of dates."

Zamil bin Amr reports from his father, from his grandfather: On the day of Eid al-Fitr, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to the place of the Eid prayer, with Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him) on his right and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) on his left (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both). When he had finished, he passed by the gate of Abu Kathir (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) the gate of Abu Kabir, outside which the butchers were present. The people at that time were close to the days of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked, "How are you selling?" They replied, "For such and such." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Sell however you wish, but do not mix carrion with slaughtered meat for the people. O people, take heed: do not hoard; do not bid falsely against one another; do not go out to meet the goods (caravans before they reach the market); let no town-dweller sell for a desert-dweller; let no man sell over his brother's sale; let no man propose over his brother's proposal of marriage until that brother gives him permission; and let no woman ask for the divorce of another woman so as to take her share of the vessel for herself and to be married herself, for her provision is the responsibility of Allah Almighty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Umar bin Sahban, and he is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: On the day of Eid al-Fitr, or perhaps Eid al-Adha, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) offered the prayer and then went back. Sayyiduna Ubayy bin Ka'b (may Allah be pleased with him), Sayyiduna Abd al-Rahman bin Awf (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both) were behind him, and I was behind them, until we reached the butchers near the house of Abu Kathir. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to them: "Do not skin your slaughtered animal until it has died; let none of you sell over the sale of another; do not bid falsely against one another; do not go out to meet the goods (before they reach the market); and do not hoard."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain also contains a narrator, Amr bin Sahban, and he is matruk (abandoned).

Sayyiduna Abu Umamah al-Bahili (may Allah be pleased with him) relates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "The people of the cities are held back (stationed) in the path of Allah; they are the support of the Muslims and their frontier. So do not raise prices against them, do not hoard, let no town-dweller sell for a desert-dweller, let no man bid over his brother's bid, nor propose marriage over his proposal, and let no woman take her sister's vessel for herself. The provision of each one is the responsibility of Allah Almighty."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Hammad bin Abd al-Rahman, and he is munkar al-hadith (his narrations are rejected) and majhul (unknown).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) relates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "It is not lawful for a woman to be married on the (condition of the) divorce of another woman; it is not lawful for a man to sell over his companion's sale until the other leaves it; it is not lawful for three people who are in a desert land not to appoint one of them as their leader; and it is not lawful for three people who are alone (in a desert land) that two of them converse privately, leaving out the third."
Ahmad and al-Tabarani recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah, and his hadith is hasan (fair). The rest of Ahmad's narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade "jalab" and "janab"; he forbade the touch-sale (mulamasah) and false bidding (najash) in a sale; and he forbade that a man should buy over his brother's sale or propose marriage over his brother's proposal. (Al-Haythami says:) I say: Abu Dawud and others recorded this part of it: "There is to be no jalab and no janab." Its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) relates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "A town-dweller shall not sell for a desert-dweller; do not go out to meet the traders (before they reach the market); do not bid falsely against one another; let none of you propose marriage over his brother's proposal; and let no woman ask for the divorce of her sister in order to take for herself what is in her bowl, for she will get only what has been decreed for her. Do not leave the milk unmilked (tasriyah) in she-camels or goats in order to sell them. Whoever buys a musarrah goat has a choice of two options (either he keeps it, or) if he wishes, he returns it, and returns a sa' of dates along with it." (Al-Haythami says:) I say: In the "Sahih" there is a hadith from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) forbidding false bidding and going out to meet (traders outside the market). Abu Dawud and Ibn Majah also recorded from him a hadith about the musarrah animal, except that in it he said: "He returns twice (the narrator is unsure; perhaps the words are:) the equivalent of its milk in wheat," that is, he used the word wheat instead of dates.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Layth bin Abi Sulaym, and he is thiqah (trustworthy) but he is a mudallis (one who conceals defects in the chain). The rest of its narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.
