Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) states: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "My father slaughtered his sacrificial animal before offering the (Eid) prayer." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tell your father to first offer the prayer and then offer the sacrifice."
Ahmad and Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Huyayy bin Abdullah al-Ma'afiri, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and others declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Ahmad and others called him da'if (weak). The remaining narrators of Tabarani are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with him) states: A man slaughtered a one-year-old kid before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had offered the prayer. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "After you, this will not suffice on behalf of anyone." He forbade people from slaughtering before offering the prayer. (Allamah Haythami says:) I say: Another hadith is also transmitted from Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) on the prohibition of slaughtering before the prayer, apart from this one.
Ahmad and Abu Ya'la recorded it, and the narrators of both are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him) states: I was present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on the day of Eid. The narrator says: When I went off to the prayer, my wife went to my sacrificial animal, slaughtered it, and prepared food from it. The narrator says: When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) had led us in prayer and I returned home, she brought me food that was already prepared. I asked: "Where has this come from?" She said: "I slaughtered your sacrificial animal and made food for you from it, so that you may eat when you come." The narrator says: I said to her: "By Allah, I fear that doing this was not proper." The narrator states: Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned this to him, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It counts for nothing; offer the sacrifice again." The narrator says: I looked for a musinnah (an older animal) but could not find one. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Look for a young sheep and sacrifice it." The narrator states: So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) granted him a concession regarding the young sheep, and he sacrificed it, since he had not found a musinnah.
Ahmad recorded it, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Sayyiduna Sahl bin Hathmah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: Sayyiduna Abu Burdah bin Niyar (may Allah be pleased with him) slaughtered his animal at the time of suhur (before dawn). When he had finished, he mentioned this to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Whoever slaughters an animal before the prayer, that will not count as a sacrifice; the sacrifice is the animal that is slaughtered after the (Eid) prayer. Go and offer a sacrifice. He said: O Messenger of Allah! I did not find anything for the sacrifice, and now I have only a young goat. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Go and sacrifice that very one! And after you there will be no concession in this matter for anyone else."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat. Al-Dhahabi says: The hadith he narrates is munkar (denounced). He also mentioned another hadith from Sayyiduna Sahl (may Allah be pleased with him) besides this one. And Allah knows best.
