Kurayb, the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), narrates that he said: O Abu Abbas! What do you say about this: that if a person comes for Hajj without bringing a sacrificial animal along, and then circumambulates the House, he may perform Umrah and come out of ihram; and that a pilgrim who circumambulates it having brought a sacrificial animal along combines Hajj and Umrah? You say this, but the people do not say it. He said: Woe to you! The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set out, and with him were Companions who were reciting the talbiyah for Hajj only. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered that whoever did not have a sacrificial animal with him should circumambulate the House, then perform Umrah and come out of ihram. One of them said: O Messenger of Allah! Is it Hajj? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not Hajj; rather, it is Umrah."

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came to Makkah while his Companions were reciting the talbiyah (here the narrator Affan reports the words: they were in ihram) for Hajj. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever wishes may make it an Umrah, except for the one who has a sacrificial animal with him (this ruling is not for him)." The people said: O Messenger of Allah! Is one of us to go to Mina while drops of semen are dripping from his private part? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes." Meanwhile, (some people) also applied fragrance. Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had come from Yemen. He (the Prophet) asked: "What did you intend (when entering ihram)?" He replied: I intended whatever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) intended. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Set off, for you are with us, since you have a sacrificial animal." The narrator Humayd says: I narrated this hadith to Tawus, and he said: This is what the people did. Affan says the wording is: "Make it an Umrah." (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say:
This report is in the "Sahih" in abridged form.

Sayyiduna al-Bara' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and his Companions set out, and we had entered ihram for Hajj. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Change your Hajj into Umrah." People said: O Messenger of Allah! We entered ihram for Hajj; how can we make it an Umrah? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Look at what I am instructing you, and do it." The people did not act upon what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) became angry. He went off until he came, in a state of anger, to Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) perceived the signs of anger on his face and said: Who has angered you, so that I may be angry with him too? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Why should I not be angry, when I give an order and it is not being followed?"
Abu Ya'la recorded it, and its narrators are the narrators of the "Sahih".

Sayyiduna Ma'qil bin Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: We went to perform Hajj with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). We found that Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) had taken off her garments. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked her: "What is the matter with you?" She said: I have been told that you have come out of ihram and have told your wives to come out of ihram as well. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The one who had no sacrificial animal with him has come out of ihram. As for us, we have not come out of ihram, because we have sacrificial animals with us, until we reach Arafat."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. Its chain contains a narrator, Ubaydullah bin Abi Humayd, who is matruk (abandoned).

Urwah bin al-Zubayr narrates that he came to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) and said: O Ibn Abbas! For how long have you been leading people into misunderstanding? Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: O Urayyah! What is it? He said: A man sets out in ihram for Hajj and Umrah, and when he has performed the circumambulation, you say that he may come out of ihram, whereas Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) used to forbid that. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Woe to you! Are these two more preferable in your view, or what is in the Book of Allah and what the Messenger of Allah laid down as Sunnah for his Companions and for his Ummah? Urwah said: These two had more knowledge of the Book of Allah, and of the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), than you and I. Ibn Abi Mulaykah says: Thus Urwah disagreed with him.
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat, and its chain is hasan (good).
