Sayyiduna Sabrah bin Ma'bad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "An arrow serves as a man's sutrah (barrier) in his prayer. When any of you offers prayer, he should make a sutrah with an arrow."
Imam Ahmad, Imam Abu Ya'la and Tabarani, in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded it. Imam Ahmad's narrators are the narrators of the Sahih.

Sayyiduna Sa'd al-Qaraz (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: The Negus (al-Najashi) sent three spears to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) kept one for himself, gave one to Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) and gave one to Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Bilal (may Allah be pleased with him) would walk ahead of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) carrying that spear, and on the occasions of the two Eids he would plant it in front, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would offer prayer facing it.

Sayyiduna Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A short spear would be planted for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he would offer prayer facing it. The narrator says: I think the narration also contains these words: Women (in howdahs) would pass in front of him (that is, on the other side of the sutrah).
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Hammad al-Wasiti, and I have not found anyone who mentions him.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his blessed hand on it, and it became calm.
Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abd al-Muhaymin bin Abbas, who is da'if (weak).
