Sayyiduna Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Swords should not be drawn in the mosque nor arrows scattered; oaths by the name of Allah should not be sworn in the mosques; no one should be prevented from taking a midday rest in the mosques, whether he is a resident or a guest; images should not be made (in the mosques), nor should they be adorned with glass. They have been built for the trust (that is, for performing worship), and they have been ennobled with honour."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Bishr bin Jabalah, who is da'if (weak).

A freed slave of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) says: Once I was with Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), and he was with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). They entered the mosque, and there was a man sitting in the middle of the mosque in the ihtiba' posture (knees drawn up and held), with his fingers interlaced. the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) even gestured towards him, but the man did not understand the gesture of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) turned to Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "When any of you is in the mosque, he should not interlace his fingers, for interlacing the fingers is from Satan; and as long as a person remains in the mosque, he is counted as being continuously in prayer until he leaves the mosque."
Ahmad recorded it, and its chain is hasan (good).
