Al-Qasim, the freedman of Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah, says: I entered the mosque of Damascus and saw some people gathered while an elderly man was narrating hadith to them. I asked: Who is this? The people said: This is Sayyiduna Sahl bin al-Hanzaliyyah. (Al-Qasim says:) I heard him say: I heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Whoever eats meat should perform ablution."
Ahmad recorded it by way of Sulayman bin Abi al-Rabi' from al-Qasim Abu Abd al-Rahman. I have not seen anyone give the biography of the narrator Sulayman, and there is disagreement about using the narrator al-Qasim as evidence.

Muhammad bin Tahla' says: I said to Abu Sulayman: Your foster relative "Sulaym" does not perform ablution after (eating) something cooked on fire. At this he struck Sulaym on the chest and said: I bear witness concerning Sayyidah Umm Salamah (may Allah be pleased with her), the wife of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), (that she said:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to perform ablution after (eating) something cooked on fire.
Ahmad recorded it, and al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir. The narrators of al-Tabarani have been declared trustworthy, because this narration is from Muhammad bin Tahla' from Abu Salamah. As for the narrator named Abu Sulayman who appears in the chain of Ahmad, I do not know him, and I have not seen anyone give his biography.
