It is narrated about Sayyiduna Salamah bin Salamah bin Waqsh (may Allah be pleased with him), who was a Companion of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Both narrators state: The two of them entered a wedding feast while Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) was in a state of ablution. The people ate and then left, and Sayyiduna Salamah (may Allah be pleased with him) began to perform ablution again. Jubayrah said to him: Were you not in a state of ablution? He replied: Yes (I was in a state of ablution), but I saw the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when we came out of a feast to which we had been invited; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was in a state of ablution, yet after eating he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution again. I said: O Messenger of Allah, were you not in a state of ablution? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes (I was in a state of ablution), but a new command comes later, and this is part of the new command (that is, performing ablution again after eating cooked food).
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this report in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Abdullah bin Salih, the scribe of al-Layth. Abd al-Malik bin Shu'ayb bin al-Layth declared him thiqah (trustworthy), while Imam Ahmad and a group declared him da'if (weak), and he has been accused of lying.
