Sayyiduna Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: People used to keep asking about something concerning a command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him); the people kept asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and that thing was lawful, but they kept on asking about it until it was made unlawful for them.
Al-Bazzar recorded it; its chain contains a narrator, Qays bin al-Rabi', whom Shu'bah and Sufyan declared thiqah (trustworthy), while Ahmad, Yahya bin Ma'in and others called him da'if (weak).

Sayyiduna al-Mughirah (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "As long as I leave you alone, you too should leave me (as I am), for those before you were destroyed because of asking questions excessively and disagreeing with their Prophets. Whatever I command you, carry it out according to your ability, and whatever I forbid you, refrain from it."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Awsat; its chain contains a narrator whom I do not know.
