Majma al-Zawaid 720 — The reason for forbidding asking many questions
وَعَنْ جَابِرٍ قَالَ : مَا نَزَلَتْ آيَةُ التَّلَاعُنِ إِلَّا لِكَثْرَةِ السُّؤَالِ .
رَوَاهُ الْبَزَّارُ ، وَرِجَالُهُ ثِقَاتٌ .

Sayyiduna Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) says: The verse concerning li'an (mutual imprecation) was revealed because of excessive questioning.
