Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the deed of Paradise?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Speaking the truth, for when a servant speaks the truth, he does righteous deeds; when he does righteous deeds, he becomes a believer; and when he becomes a believer, he enters Paradise." The man asked: "O Messenger of Allah! What is the deed of Hell?" He said: "Lying, for when a man lies, he commits sin; when he commits sin, he commits disbelief; and when he commits disbelief, he enters it." (The narrator says:) The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) meant that he will enter Hell.
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Ibn Lahi'ah.

Sayyidah Aishah Siddiqah (may Allah be pleased with her) says: No trait was more hateful to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) than lying. Whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) learned of a lie on the part of someone, he (peace and blessings be upon him) would remain displeased with that person until he came to know that he had now repented (and would not do so again). Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration, and Imam Ahmad recorded a narration similar to it. In one narration the words are: "No trait was (more hateful than lying) to the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."
Imam al-Bazzar also recorded this narration, and its chain is sahih (authentic).

Sayyidah Asma' bint Yazid (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates: I said: "O Messenger of Allah! If one of us says about something she desires, 'I do not desire it', will that be counted as a lie?" The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A lie is recorded as a lie, even a small lie is recorded as a small lie."
Imam Ahmad, and Imam al-Tabarani in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, recorded this narration within a long hadith. Its chain mentions: Abu Shaddad narrated it from Mujahid. The author of "al-Mizan" says: No one other than Ibn Jurayj narrated from him. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Yunus bin Yazid al-Ayli narrated this hadith from him, as mentioned in the "Musnad", so his being unknown is removed.
