Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I heard many hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), which I heard and memorized, but I do not narrate them because my companions narrate differently from me regarding (some of) them.
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators have been declared trustworthy.

Abu Idris al-Khawlani narrates: I saw Sayyiduna Abu al-Darda' (may Allah be pleased with him): when he finished narrating a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he would say: "This, or something like it, or something resembling it (are the words of the hadith)."
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir, and its narrators are thiqat (trustworthy).

Mutarrif narrates: Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "O Mutarrif! By Allah! I think that if I wished, I could narrate hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for two consecutive days without repeating anything. But then I do not do so, and I dislike it (that I should narrate hadiths), because some men from among the Companions of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are:) some of the Companions of Sayyiduna Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) - I was present just as they were present, and I heard just as they heard - yet they narrate some hadiths which became confused for them." (The narrator says:) Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) would sometimes say: "If I were to tell you that I heard the Prophet of Allah say such and such, I think that I would have spoken the truth." And sometimes Sayyiduna Imran (may Allah be pleased with him) would say with certainty: "I heard the Prophet of Allah say such and such."
Imam Ahmad recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Abu Harun al-Ghanawi, and I have not seen anyone who has given his biography. (Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: The hadith narrated from Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) will come in the chapter containing the narrations about attributing a lie to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
