It is reported about Sayyiduna Uqbah bin Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) that when the time of his death drew near, he said: "O my sons! I forbid you from three things, so remember them: Accept a hadith of the Messenger of Allah only from a trustworthy person; do not take on debt, even if you have to wear worn-out cloaks; and do not write down poetry, lest your hearts become occupied with it (poetry) instead of the Qur'an."
Al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains Ibn Lahi'ah, and despite his weakness he is tolerated in this (report).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates this saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "Soon there will appear among you devils whom Sayyiduna Sulayman (peace be upon him) had imprisoned in the sea. They will pray with you in your mosques, they will recite the Qur'an with you, and they will argue with you about the religion; they will be devils in human form."
(Allamah al-Haythami says:) I say: Imam Muslim recorded this narration as "mawquf" (stopping at the Companion), while here it is "marfu'" (attributed to the Prophet). Imam al-Tabarani recorded it in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Muhammad bin Khalid al-Wasiti, whom Yahya bin Ma'in attributed to lying.

Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrate this as a marfu' hadith: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Among those who come later, this knowledge will be carried by its upright people, who will repel from it the distortion of the extremists, the false interpretation of the ignorant, and the false attributions of the people of falsehood."
Imam al-Bazzar recorded this narration; its chain contains a narrator, Amr bin Khalid al-Qurashi, whom Yahya bin Ma'in and Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal declared a liar, and they attributed him to fabricating (hadith).

Sayyiduna al-Muqanna' (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates: I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) with the zakah of our camels. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) gave an order concerning them, and they were taken into possession. I said: "Among them are two she-camels which are a gift for you." By the order of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), the gift was separated from the charity. I stayed there for some days, and during that time the people kept talking among themselves that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was about to send Sayyiduna Khalid bin al-Walid (may Allah be pleased with him) to the slaves of Misr (the narrator is in doubt, or perhaps the words are: to the slaves of Mudar; this doubt is from the narrator named Abu Ghassan) so that he could collect zakah from them. I said: "By Allah! Whatever wealth we and the people of our area have, I have paid its zakah here." Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). He was at that time on his she-camel, and with him (peace and blessings be upon him) was a black man whose head was level with the head of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) (in height); I have never seen anyone taller than him. When I began to come near the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), he moved towards me (to stop me from approaching the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)), but the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held him back. I said: "The people are thinking such and such." So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) raised both his hands until I saw the whiteness of his (peace and blessings be upon him) armpits, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah! I do not make it lawful for the people to attribute any lie to me." Sayyiduna al-Muqanna' (may Allah be pleased with him) says: I will narrate from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) only that hadith about which there is a command in the Book (that is, the Qur'an), or concerning which the Sunnah has become established. If a lie could be attributed to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) during his lifetime, then what will be the state after his (peace and blessings be upon him) passing?
Imam al-Tabarani recorded this narration in al-Mu'jam al-Kabir; its chain contains a narrator, Sayf bin Harun al-Burjumi, and he is matruk (abandoned).
