أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ الْقَاضِي، أنبأ أَبُو سَهْلِ بْنُ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ، ثنا أَبُو يَحْيَى عَبْدُ الْكَرِيمِ بْنُ الْهَيْثَمِ، ثنا أَبُو الْيَمَانِ، أنبأ شُعَيْبٌ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، أَخْبَرَنِي عُبَيْدُ اللهِ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ عَبَّاسٍ، عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ فِي قِصَّةِ الْمَرْأَتَيْنِ اللَّتَيْنِ تَظَاهَرَتَا، قَالَ: فَجِئْتُ الْمَشْرَبَةَ الَّتِي فِيهَا رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَقُلْتُ لِغُلَامٍ لَهُ أَسْوَدَ: " اسْتَأْذِنْ لِعُمَرَ، فَدَخَلَ الْغُلَامُ، فَكَلَّمَ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلِيَّ، فَقَالَ: كَلَّمْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَذَكَرْتُكَ لَهُ فَصَمَتَ، فَرَجَعْتُ فَجَلَسْتُ مَعَ الرَّهْطِ ⦗١٧٥⦘ الَّذِينَ عِنْدَ الْمِنْبَرِ، ثُمَّ غَلَبَنِي مَا أَجِدُ، فَجِئْتُ الْغُلَامَ فَقُلْتُ لَهُ: اسْتَأْذِنْ لِعُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، فَدَخَلَ ثُمَّ رَجَعَ إِلِيَّ، فَقَالَ: قَدْ ذَكَرْتُكَ لَهُ، فَصَمَتَ، قَالَ: فَلَمَّا وَلَّيْتُ مُنْصَرِفًا إِذَا الْغُلَامُ يَدْعُونِي، فَقَالَ: قَدْ أَذِنَ لَكَ رَسُولُ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَدَخَلْتُ عَلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَإِذَا هُوَ مُضْطَجِعٌ عَلَى رِمَالِ حَصِيرٍ، لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ فِرَاشٌ، قَدْ أَثَّرَ الرِّمَالُ بِجَنْبِهِ، مُتَّكِئٌ عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ مِنْ أَدَمٍ، حَشْوُهَا اللِّيفُ " وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ أَبِي الْيَمَانِ.
Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates from Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him), regarding the story of the two women who had banded together (against the Prophet), that he said: I came to the upper room where the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was. I said to a black servant boy of his (peace and blessings be upon him): Ask permission for Umar. The servant went in and spoke to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), then came back to me and said: I mentioned you to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. I went back and sat with the group who were by the pulpit. Then what I was feeling overcame me, so I said to the servant again: Ask permission for Umar. The servant went in and mentioned it before him (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) remained silent. He said: When I turned to go back, the servant called me from behind: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) has given you permission. I went in, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was lying on a mat woven of palm strips. There was no bedding between him and it. The marks of the mat were on his (peace and blessings be upon him) side. He (peace and blessings be upon him) was reclining on a leather pillow stuffed with palm fibre.
أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ، أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ الصَّفَّارُ، ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ بْنِ مِلْحَانَ، ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ، حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ، عَنْ عُقَيْلٍ، عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ، أَنَّهُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي مَالِكُ بْنُ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ النَّصْرِيُّ، وَكَانَ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ مُطْعِمٍ ذَكَرَ لِي ذِكْرًا مِنْ حَدِيثِهِ ذَلِكَ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ حَتَّى دَخَلْتُ عَلَى مَالِكِ بْنِ أَوْسِ بْنِ الْحَدَثَانِ، فَسَأَلْتُهُ عَنْ ذَلِكَ الْحَدِيثِ، فَقَالَ لِي مَالِكٌ: بَيْنَا أَنَا جَالِسٌ فِي أَهْلِي حِينَ مَتَعَ النَّهَارُ، إِذَا رَسُولُ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: أَجِبْ أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، فَانْطَلَقْتُ مَعَهُ حَتَّى إِذَا دَخَلْتُ عَلَى عُمَرَ فَإِذَا هُوَ جَالِسٌ عَلَى رِمَالِ سَرِيرٍ، لَيْسَ بَيْنَهُ وَبَيْنَهُ فِرَاشٌ، مُتَّكِئٌ عَلَى وِسَادَةٍ مِنْ أَدَمٍ، فَسَلَّمْتُ عَلَيْهِ، ثُمَّ جَلَسْتُ فَقَالَ لِي: " هَهُنَا يَا مَالِ " - يَعْنِي: يَا مَالِكُ، إِنَّهُ قَدْ قَدِمَ أَهْلُ أَبْيَاتٍ مِنْ قَوْمِكَ، وَقَدْ أُمِّرْتَ لَهُمْ، فَاقْسِمْ بَيْنَهُمْ "، قَالَ: فَقُلْتُ: " يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، لَوْ أَمَّرْتَ بِهِ غَيْرِي " قَالَ: " فَاقْبِضْهُ أَيُّهَا الْمَرْءُ "، قَالَ: " فَبَيْنَا أَنَا جَالِسٌ عِنْدَهُ إِذْ جَاءَهُ حَاجِبُهُ يَرْفَأُ، فَقَالَ: " هَلْ لَكَ فِي عُثْمَانَ وَعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ وَالزُّبَيْرِ وَسَعْدٍ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَ عَلَيْكَ؟ " قَالَ: " نَعَمْ "، فَأَذِنَ لَهُمْ، قَالَ: " فَدَخَلُوا فَسَلَّمُوا، قَالَ: " ثُمَّ لَبِثَ يَرْفَأُ قَلِيلًا، فَقَالَ لِعُمَرَ: هَلْ لَكَ فِي عَلِيٍّ وَالْعَبَّاسِ؟ " قَالَ: " نَعَمْ، ائْذَنْ لَهُمَا "، فَلَمَّا دَخَلَا سَلَّمَا وَجَلَسَا، فَقَالَ الْعَبَّاسُ يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ: " اقْضِ بَيْنِي وَبَيْنَ هَذَا "، فَقَالَ الرَّهْطُ - عُثْمَانُ وَأَصْحَابُهُ -: يَا أَمِيرَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ، اقْضِ بَيْنَهُمَا، وَأَرِحْ أَحَدَهُمَا مِنَ الْآخَرِ " وَذَكَرَ الْحَدِيثَ. رَوَاهُ الْبُخَارِيُّ فِي الصَّحِيحِ عَنْ يَحْيَى بْنِ بُكَيْرٍ.
Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Malik bin Aws bin al-Hadathan al-Nasri (may Allah be pleased with him) informed me, and Muhammad bin Jubayr bin Mut'im (may Allah have mercy on him) had mentioned to me part of this hadith of his. So I went and entered upon Malik bin Aws bin al-Hadathan (may Allah be pleased with him). I asked him about that hadith, and Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was among my family when the day had well advanced, and suddenly the messenger of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) came and said: "The Commander of the Faithful is calling for you." I went with him to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He was sitting on a bed woven of palm leaves, with no bedding on it, and there was a pillow made of leather. I greeted him and sat down. He said: "O Malik! Sit here."
"Some households of your people have come, and I have ordered (something of wealth) for them; divide it among them." I said: O Commander of the Faithful! Order someone other than me to do it. He said: "O man! Take it." We were sitting with him when the doorkeeper came, asking permission for Uthman, Abd al-Rahman, al-Zubayr and Sa'd (may Allah be pleased with them). Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) gave permission. Having been given permission, they entered and greeted. After a little while the doorkeeper came again and said to Umar (may Allah be pleased with him): Ali and al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) are asking permission. He said: "Give them permission." The two entered, greeted and sat down, and al-Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: "Judge between me and this man." The group, that is, Uthman and his companions, said: O Commander of the Faithful! Judge between the two of them and give each of them relief from the other.

أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ بِشْرَانَ، أنبأ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ السَّمَّاكِ، ثنا حَنْبَلُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ، ثنا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ، ثنا جَرِيرٌ، عَنْ مُغِيرَةَ، قَالَ: " كَانَ شُرَيْحٌ يَدْخُلُ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ بَيْتًا يَخْلُو فِيهِ، لَا يَدْرِي النَّاسُ مَا يَصْنَعُ فِيهِ ".
Mughirah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: On Fridays Qadi Shurayh (may Allah have mercy on him) would enter a house and remain alone in it, and people did not know what he did there.
