It is narrated from Abdullah bin Abdullah bin Abi Umayyah (may Allah have mercy on him) that a woman's husband died, and another man indicated to her his wish to marry her. When she became lawful (for marriage), he married her. She remained (with him) four and a half months, then she gave birth to a child. The matter reached Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). He sent (a messenger) to the woman and questioned her. She said: By Allah, it is his (first husband's) child. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked about the woman, and he was told only good about her. Then he sent for the women of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah), gathered them and asked them about her case and her story. One of those women said to her: Did you use to menstruate? She said: Yes, I used to menstruate. That woman said: When were you last with your husband? She said: Before he died. That woman said: O Leader of the Believers! I will tell you the story of this woman. She conceived from her first husband, and she kept bleeding while pregnant, so her child withered because of the flow of blood. Then when she married the second husband and the fluid from that husband reached it, it revived and began to move, and because of that her bleeding also stopped. So when she gave birth, she gave birth to it at a full six months. The women said: She has told the truth about her case. So Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) separated the two of them.

It is narrated from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said: I was sitting spinning wool, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was mending his sandal. Sweat began to flow from his forehead, and light was shining forth from his sweat, and I fell silent in amazement. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) looked at me and said: "O Aishah, what has amazed you?" I said: The sweat coming from your forehead and the light coming from that sweat; and if Abu Kabir al-Hudhali had seen you, he would have known that you are more deserving of his poetry. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What did Abu Kabir say?" Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: He says:
"And he is pure of every stain of menstruation, safe from the harm of a nursing mother and the illness of one with a headache. When you look at the radiance of his face, it shines like the flashing of a thundering, gleaming cloud."
Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up towards me, kissed me between my eyes and said: "O Aishah, may Allah reward you with the best reward on my behalf."

Ishaq bin Ibrahim (may Allah have mercy on him) said: Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) said to me: What do you say about a pregnant woman who sees blood? I said: She should pray; and I took as evidence the report that came through the chain of Ata (may Allah have mercy on him) from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her). He said: Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him) said to me: Where are you with regard to the report of the people of Madinah, which came through the chain of Umm Alqamah from Sayyidah Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her)? It is more authentic. Ishaq (may Allah have mercy on him) said: So I came back to the view of Ahmad bin Hanbal (may Allah have mercy on him).
As for the narration of Sulayman bin Musa from Ata, Muhammad bin Rashid alone narrates it from him, and Muhammad bin Rashid is da'if (weak). Ibn Jurayj narrated from Ata concerning a pregnant woman who sees blood that he said: She is in the position of a woman with irregular bleeding (istihadah). And al-Hajjaj narrated from Ata that he said: When a pregnant woman sees blood, she performs ablution and prays and does not take a ritual bath. This contradicts the narration of those who narrated from him, from Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), regarding the ritual bath. And Allah knows best.
