Sayyiduna Abyad bin Hammal (may Allah be pleased with him) came in a delegation to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked him for the salt mine. Ibn al-Mutawakkil (may Allah have mercy on him) said: the one at Ma'rib. He (peace and blessings be upon him) gave it to him. When he turned to leave, a man from the gathering said: Do you know what you have given him? You have given him ever-flowing water. So the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took it back. The narrator says: I asked him what part of the arak trees may be made a protected pasture, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What the hooves do not reach." Ibn al-Mutawakkil (may Allah have mercy on him) said: the hooves of camels.

Safiyyah and Duhaybah (may Allah be pleased with them both) say that their grandmother (may Allah be pleased with her) informed them: We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: My companion, meaning Hurayth bin Hassan (may Allah be pleased with him), came as the delegate of Banu Bakr bin Wa'il, and pledged allegiance to him on Islam. Then he said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! Write (a document) between us and Banu Tamim concerning al-Dahna, that none of them should cross it towards us except a traveller or one seeking protection." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O boy! Write al-Dahna for him." When I saw that he had ordered it for him, I was distressed, for it was my homeland and my home. I said: "O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)! He did not ask you for an equal share of the land when he asked you; this al-Dahna, with you, is a place for tethering camels and a pasture for sheep, and the women of Banu Tamim and their sons are beyond it." He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold back, O boy! The poor woman has spoken the truth. A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim; water and trees suffice them both, and they help one another against the tempter."
