Yahya bin Ya'mar said: I said to Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both): "O Abu Abd al-Rahman! Some people claim that there is no divine decree (qadar)." He said: "Is any of them with us?" I said: No! He said: "Convey this message from me to them whenever you meet them: Ibn Umar is free of you before Allah, and you are free of him." I heard Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) say: "We were sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when a man came; the signs of travel were on him and he was not one of the people of the town. He came forward until he sat before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) the way one of us sits in prayer, then he placed his hands on the knees of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and asked: O Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him)! What is Islam?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "To bear witness that Allah Almighty alone is worthy of worship and that Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) is the Messenger, to establish the prayer, to give zakah, to perform Hajj to the House and to perform Umrah, to take the ritual bath (ghusl) for janabah, to complete the ablution (wudu), and to fast Ramadan." He said: "If I do this, am I a Muslim?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes!" Then he said: "You (peace and blessings be upon him) have spoken the truth." (And he mentioned the whole hadith.)
