It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that he said: We were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and a man fell from his camel while he was in the state of ihram. His neck was broken and he died, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash him with water and lote-tree leaves (sidr), shroud him in two garments, and do not cover his head, for Allah Almighty will raise him on the Day of Resurrection, and he will rise reciting the talbiyah."

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that once a man was standing with him (peace and blessings be upon him) at Arafah when suddenly he fell from his mount. This was mentioned to the beloved Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash him with water and lote-tree leaves (sidr), shroud him in two garments, do not apply perfume to him, and do not cover his head." Ayyub said: Indeed, Allah Almighty will raise him on the Day of Resurrection in the state of talbiyah.

Sulayman said: Hammad narrated the hadith to us, and it was in the wording of Ayyub's narration, except that he did not mention his words: "So that was mentioned to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)."

The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash him with water and lote-tree leaves (sidr), shroud his whole body except the head in two garments, and do not apply perfume to him, for he will surely be raised on the Day of Resurrection with his hair matted (mulabbid)."

Sa'id bin Jubayr narrates that he heard Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) relate that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) while he was in the state of ihram. He fell from his she-camel and his neck was broken. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered "that he be washed with water and lote-tree leaves (sidr), that he be shrouded in two garments, that no perfume be applied to him, and that his head be left uncovered." Shu'bah said: Then he narrated it to me afterwards and said: "Leave his head and his face uncovered, for he will be raised on the Day of Resurrection with his hair matted (mulabbid)."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that a man was with him (peace and blessings be upon him); his she-camel threw him and he died. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash him, do not bring perfume near him, and do not cover his face, for he will be raised reciting the talbiyah."
This is an error (wahm) by some of its narrators, in both the chain and the text.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that a man's she-camel threw him while he was in the state of ihram, and he died. He was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Wash him and shroud him, but do not cover his head and do not bring perfume near him, for he will be raised in the state of talbiyah."
Imam al-Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) recorded it from Qutaybah, and this is the correct version: Mansur from al-Hakam from Sa'id, and in its text: "Do not cover his head." The narration of the majority concerns the head alone, and the mention of the face in it is gharib (unusual). Abu al-Zubayr narrated it from Sa'id bin Jubayr and mentioned the face with doubt on his part about the text; the narration of the majority, who did not doubt and conveyed the text in better order, is more worthy of being the preserved (mahfuz) one. And Allah knows best.

Al-Shafi'i said: It is narrated from Ibn Shihab that Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him) did something similar.

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) narrates that when a person in the state of ihram dies, "his head is not to be covered, so that he meets Allah Almighty in the state of ihram."

Ata narrates from Sayyiduna Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Cover the faces of your dead, and do not imitate the Jews."
If this is authentic, it supports the narration of Ibrahim bin Abi Hurrah regarding the command to cover the face. However, Ahmad bin Hanbal rejected it and said: Hafs erred in it by making it marfu' (attributed to the Prophet); it is from Ata, mursal. Al-Thawri and others likewise narrated it from Ibn Jurayj as mursal, and the narration from Ali bin Asim from Ibn Jurayj in the manner of Hafs is an error (wahm). And Allah knows best.
