It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that on a Friday a man entered the mosque through the door that faced Dar al-Qada', while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing delivering the sermon. He turned towards the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) while standing and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the livestock have perished and the roads are cut off. Supplicate to Allah Almighty to help us." Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands and said: 'Allahumma aghithna' (O Allah, help us). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said this three times. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, we could not see any cloud in the sky, not even a patch of cloud, and there was no house or anything between us and (the mountain of) Sal' (that could hide a cloud from us). The narrator says: From behind Sal' a cloud like a shield appeared; when it reached the middle of the sky it spread out and then rained. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: By Allah, we did not see the sun for six whole days. Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then a man entered through that same door the following Friday while the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was standing delivering the sermon. He turned towards him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "O Messenger of Allah, the livestock have perished and the roads are cut off. Supplicate to Allah to hold this rain back from us." So he (peace and blessings be upon him) raised his hands and said: 'Allahumma hawalayna wa la 'alayna, Allahumma 'alal-akami waz-zirabi wa butunil-awdiyati wa manabitish-shajar' (O Allah, now not upon us but around us. O Allah, (send it) upon the hillocks, the small hills, the bottoms of the valleys and the places where trees grow). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The clouds cleared, and when we came out of the mosque we were walking in the sunshine. Sharik said: I asked Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): Was it the same man as the first? He said: I do not know.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Jabir bin Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them both) that weeping people came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) (and spoke to him), so he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated: "O Allah, grant us rain that is helpful, quenching and bringing greenery, swift and not delayed, beneficial and not harmful." Then the clouds spread over them like a covering plate.
Abu al-Abbas narrates in a hadith that people of the tribe of Hawazin came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) for supplication, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Say: 'Allahummasqina' (O Allah, give us water to drink)."

Abu al-Abbas (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it and mentioned it, saying: (They were) Hawazin, but he did not mention the word 'qulu' (say). A group narrated it in this way from Muhammad bin Ubayd, and so it is in our copy of the book of Abu Dawud. Abu Sulayman al-Khattabi (may Allah have mercy on him) used to read it as: 'I saw the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) tawaka', and he explained that 'tawaka' means exerting oneself when raising and stretching out the hands in supplication.

Muhammad bin Ubayd narrated the hadith to us and mentioned the first wording. Abdullah (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I narrated this hadith to my father (may Allah have mercy on him), and my father said: Muhammad bin Ubayd gave us his book (of narrations) from Mis'ar and we copied it, and this hadith was not in it. This is nothing. It is as if he rejected it from Muhammad bin Ubayd. My father said: Ya'la, the brother of Muhammad, narrated it to us: Mis'ar narrated to us from Yazid al-Faqir as mursal, and he did not say 'weeping people'; he contradicted him.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ka'b bin Murrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that he narrated to us a hadith that he had heard from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) when he (peace and blessings be upon him) invoked against the tribe of "Mudar". So I came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Indeed Allah Almighty has granted you (what you asked) and has answered your supplication, and indeed your people have perished, so supplicate for them. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated: 'Allahumma-sqina ghaythan mughithan mari'an mari'an nafi'an ghayra darrin, 'ajilan ghayra ajil' (O Allah, give us beneficial rain that relieves and quenches, that brings lushness, that satisfies and brings abundance, that comes soon and not late, that is beneficial and not harmful). Then not even a Friday, or a time equal to it, had passed before they were given rain.

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his father, and he from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him), that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) sought rain, he would say: 'Allahumma-sqi 'ibadaka wa baha'imaka, wanshur rahmataka, wa ahyi baladaka al-mayyit' (O Allah, give water to Your servants and Your livestock, spread Your mercy, and give life to Your dead land).

Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Jarad (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that whenever the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed for rain, he would say: "O Allah, give us rain that helps us and quenches, with which You give ample provision to Your servants, increase the milk and give life to the crops." And he also added these words: 'Hani'an mari'an' (one that is pleasant and brings lushness).

Al-Muttalib bin Hantab (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to say when it rained: 'Allahumma-sqina rahmatan, wa la tasqina 'adhaban, wa la bala'an, wa la hadman, wa la gharaqan. Allahumma 'ala al-akami wa manabit al-shajar. Allahumma hawalayna wa la 'alayna' (O Allah, give us a watering of mercy, and do not give us a watering of punishment, nor of calamity, nor one that demolishes houses, nor one that drowns. O Allah, send such rain upon the hills and the forests. O Allah, send it around us and not upon us).
This is mursal.
