It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was delivering the sermon on Friday when the people stood up and began to cry out: O Messenger of Allah, there is a drought of rain, the trees have turned yellow and the animals are perishing. Supplicate to Allah Almighty to give us rain to drink. So he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated and said: 'Allahummasqina, Allahummasqina' (O Allah, give us water to drink; O Allah, give us water to drink). Sayyiduna Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) says: By Allah, we could not see a single patch of cloud in the sky, but suddenly clouds were produced, spread out and rained. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) came down from the pulpit, prayed and left, but the rain continued for the whole week. Then, when the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood to deliver the sermon, the people began to cry out: O Messenger of Allah, the houses have collapsed and the roads are cut off. So supplicate to Allah Almighty to hold it back from us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) smiled and implored: 'Allahumma hawalayna wa la 'alayna' (O Allah, around us and not upon us). The clouds cleared from Madinah and began to rain all around, but they did not rain upon Madinah, not even a drop. I looked at Madinah, and it was as if it were within a crown (with the clouds circling it).

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man complained to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that the livestock had perished and the families had become emaciated and weak. Sayyiduna Anas bin Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated to Allah, and they were given rain. He did not mention the turning of the cloak, nor facing the qiblah.
Imam Bukhari (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated it in his Sahih from al-Hasan bin Bishr. Together with the previously mentioned hadith of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Zayd (may Allah be pleased with him), it serves as an indication that this (turning the cloak and facing the qiblah) is a sunnah only in the sermon of the rain prayer, not in the Friday sermon. And Allah knows best.

Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was informed that Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) was saying to the sky: 'Hold on longer!' — meaning that he was praying for drought so that the fruit of his date palms would be spent (sold). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, send it (that is, send down rain) until Abu Lubabah is compelled to block the drain-hole of his drying yard with his cloak." So Allah Almighty sent down rain, and when the rainwater reached Abu Lubabah's (may Allah be pleased with him) fruit while he was in his date-drying yard, Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) was compelled to use his garment, and he blocked the drain-hole of his yard with it.

Sayyiduna Abu Lubabah bin Abd al-Mundhir al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) narrates that on Friday the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) supplicated for rain and said: 'Allahummasqina, Allahummasqina' (O Allah, give us rain; O Allah, give us rain). Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), the dates are lying in the drying yards, and we do not see a single cloud in the sky. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Allah, give us rain to such an extent that Abu Lubabah stands naked and blocks the drain-hole of his drying yard with his waist-wrap." The narrator says: The sky became overcast and it rained, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in prayer. The narrator says: The Ansar went to Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) and said: O Abu Lubabah, by Allah, the sky will not clear until you stand naked and block the drain-hole of your yard with your garment, just as he (peace and blessings be upon him) said. So Abu Lubabah (may Allah be pleased with him) stood naked and blocked the drain-hole of the yard with his garment, and the sky cleared.
