Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked Sayyiduna Zayd bin Arqam (may Allah be pleased with him): Were you present with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) when two Eids coincided on one day? He said: Yes. Sayyiduna Mu'awiyah (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: Then what did he (peace and blessings be upon him) do? He said: He (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Eid prayer, then gave a concession regarding the Jumu'ah and said: "Whoever wishes to pray, let him pray."

Dhakwan Abu Salih (may Allah have mercy on him) says: In the time of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) two Eids coincided, that is, the day of Jumu'ah and the day of Eid. He (peace and blessings be upon him) led the Eid prayer, then stood and addressed the people: "You have attained remembrance and good, but we will offer the Jumu'ah. Whoever would like to stay seated, let him stay seated, and whoever would like to attend the Jumu'ah, let him attend it."
It is also narrated from Sufyan bin Uyaynah from Abd al-Aziz as a connected report, restricted to the people of al-Awali, and there is weakness in its chain; and it is narrated from Umar bin Abd al-Aziz from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), restricted to the people of al-Aliyah, except that it is munqati' (broken).

Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar (may Allah have mercy on him), says: I attended the Eid with Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him). He came and led the prayer, then in the sermon he said: When two Eids come together for you on this day of yours, then if the people of al-Awali of Madinah wish to wait for the Jumu'ah, let them do so, and if they wish to return, let them go back; I give them permission.

Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar, says that he attended the occasion of Eid al-Adha with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He led the prayer, then delivered the sermon and said: O people! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "has forbidden fasting on the two Eids." One is the day on which you break your fasts, that is, you celebrate Eid al-Fitr, and the other is the day on which you eat the meat of your sacrifices. Abu Ubayd says: Then I was present with Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), and that Eid too fell on a Friday. He also led the prayer before the sermon, then delivered the sermon and said: O people! Two Eids have come together for you on this day, so whoever of the people of al-Awali wishes to wait for the Jumu'ah may wait, and whoever wishes to return may go back; I give permission.
Abu Ubayd says: Then I was present with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he too led the Eid prayer before the sermon, then gave the sermon and said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not eat the meat of your sacrifices for more than three days."
