Abu Ubayd, the freed slave of Ibn Azhar, says that he attended the occasion of Eid al-Adha with Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him). He led the prayer, then delivered the sermon and said: O people! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) "has forbidden fasting on the two Eids." One is the day on which you break your fasts, that is, you celebrate Eid al-Fitr, and the other is the day on which you eat the meat of your sacrifices. Abu Ubayd says: Then I was present with Sayyiduna Uthman bin Affan (may Allah be pleased with him), and that Eid too fell on a Friday. He also led the prayer before the sermon, then delivered the sermon and said: O people! Two Eids have come together for you on this day, so whoever of the people of al-Awali wishes to wait for the Jumu'ah may wait, and whoever wishes to return may go back; I give permission.
Abu Ubayd says: Then I was present with Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and he too led the Eid prayer before the sermon, then gave the sermon and said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Do not eat the meat of your sacrifices for more than three days."
