(a) Al-Aswad bin Qays narrates from his father that Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) saw a man dressed for travel, and he heard him saying: Were it not that today is Friday, I would have set out on my journey. So Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Go, for the Friday prayer does not hold anyone back from a journey.
(b) Al-Thawri narrates from al-Aswad that he saw a man who intended to travel on Friday and was waiting for the Friday prayer, and Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) said the same thing to him.

Abu Zur'ah bin Amr bin Jarir al-Bajali said: Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) sent out an army on a Friday, and among them was Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Mu'adh bin Jabal (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed behind. When, after the Friday prayer, Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) passed by him, he asked: Were you not in this army? He replied: Indeed I was. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) asked: What is the matter with you? (that is, what happened?) He said: I intended to attend the Friday prayer and then set off. Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: Did you not hear the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Going out in the path of Allah in the morning or in the evening is better than the world and all that is in it"?
A marfu' hadith has also been narrated on this subject, with a weak chain.

Miqsam narrates from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent out Sayyiduna Zayd bin Harithah, Sayyiduna Ja'far and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with them), and Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) stayed behind. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "What kept you back from your companions?" He said: I wanted to pray the Friday prayer with you and then join them. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Even if you were to spend all that is in the earth, you would not attain the reward of their setting out in the morning." And they had set out on a Friday.
Al-Hajjaj is alone in narrating it, and Allah knows best.

Salih bin Kathir narrates about Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) that Ibn Shihab (may Allah have mercy on him) set out on a journey early in the day on a Friday. I asked him about it, and he said: "The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) also set out on a journey early in the day on a Friday."
This is munqati' (its chain is broken).
