Sayyiduna Talhah bin Ubaydullah (may Allah be pleased with him) said that a Bedouin with dishevelled hair came to him (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: O Messenger of Allah! Tell me how many prayers Allah has made obligatory upon me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Five prayers, unless you pray something voluntarily." Then he said: How many fasts has Allah made obligatory upon me? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The fasts of Ramadan, unless you observe some voluntary fasts." Then he said: Tell me how much zakah Allah has made obligatory upon me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) informed him of the ordinances of Islam. He said: By the One who has honoured you, I will neither do more than this nor less than what Allah has made obligatory upon me. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This man has succeeded if he has spoken the truth. By Allah, he will enter Paradise if he has spoken the truth."
(b) Isma'il bin Ja'far (may Allah have mercy on him) mentioned these words: that man will enter Paradise if he has spoken the truth.

The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Five prayers in the day and night are obligatory." He said: Is anything else obligatory upon me besides them? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, unless you pray voluntarily." And (he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:) "The fasts of Ramadan are obligatory." He said: Is anything else obligatory upon me besides these fasts? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, unless you observe voluntary fasts." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned zakah to him. He said: Is anything else obligatory upon me besides it? He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "No, unless you give voluntary charity." The man turned away, saying: By Allah, I will neither add to this nor take anything away from it. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "He has succeeded if he has spoken the truth."

Whoever performs these five prayers and does not neglect them by regarding them lightly, Allah has a promise to that servant that He will admit him into Paradise. Whoever does not come to these five prayers, Allah has no promise to him: if He wills, He will punish him, and if He wills, He will admit him into Paradise."
