أنبأ أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ، ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ إِمْلَاءً، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سِنَانٍ الْقَزَّازُ، ثنا عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ حُمْرَانَ، ثنا عَبْدُ الْحَمِيدِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنِي أَبِي جَعْفَرُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ، عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي عَمْرَةَ الْبُخَارِيِّ، أَنَّهُ سَأَلَ عُبَادَةَ بْنَ الصَّامِتِ رَضِيَ اللهُ عَنْهُ عَنِ الْوِتْرِ فَقَالَ: " أَمْرٌ حَسَنٌ جَمِيلٌ، عَمِلَ بِهِ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، وَالْمُسْلِمُونَ مِنْ بَعْدِهِ وَلَيْسَ بِوَاجِبٍ ".
Abd al-Rahman bin Abi Amrah al-Bukhari asked Sayyiduna Ubadah bin al-Samit (may Allah be pleased with him) about witr, and he said: It is a very good deed; the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) acted upon it, and the Muslims after him, but it is not obligatory.
