It is narrated from Sayyidah Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her) that after the break of dawn the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would pray only two light rak'ahs.

Yasar (may Allah have mercy on him), the freed slave of Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), said: I was standing praying after the break of dawn, and I prayed a great deal. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) threw a pebble at me and said: O Yasar! How much have you prayed? I said: I do not know. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: You did not understand. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came out to us while we were praying this very prayer, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) became very angry with us. Then he said: "Let the one present among you convey to the one absent that after the break of dawn only two rak'ahs may be prayed."
Abdullah bin Wahb narrated its chain correctly from Sulayman bin Bilal, while Abu Bakr bin Abi Uways narrated it from Sulayman bin Bilal and confused its chain; the correct version is the narration of Ibn Wahb.

Likewise (through another chain).
It has a supporting report from the hadith of Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As, although its chain contains someone who is not used as evidence.

Abdullah bin Amr bin al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no prayer after the break of dawn except two rak'ahs."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Amr (may Allah be pleased with them both): "No prayer should be prayed after Fajr, except two rak'ahs."
This narration is mawquf (stopping at the Companion), and it differs from the narration of al-Thawri and Ibn Wahb both in wording and in being mawquf; al-Thawri has better memory than the others, except that Abd al-Rahman al-Ifriqi is not used as evidence. It has a supporting mursal report from the hadith of Ibn al-Musayyib.

Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no prayer after the call (adhan) except two rak'ahs," meaning (the adhan of) Fajr.
It has also been narrated with a connected chain mentioning Abu Hurayrah, but its being connected is not sound.
Hadith Referenceالسنن الكبرى للبيهقي / كتاب الصلاة / 4444
Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) saw a man praying more than two rak'ahs after the break of dawn, in which he was performing bowings and prostrations, and he forbade him. The man said: O Abu Muhammad! Will Allah Almighty punish me for praying? Sa'id bin al-Musayyib (may Allah have mercy on him) said: No, but Allah Almighty will certainly punish you for going against the Sunnah.
