Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) said: We travelled the whole night with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. In the last part of the night we reached a stopping place and halted to rest, and there is nothing sweeter to a traveller than that. Nothing woke us but the heat of the sun. The first to wake were so-and-so and so-and-so (Awf (may Allah have mercy on him) named them as well), then the fourth was Sayyiduna Umar bin al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him). When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) slept, no one would wake him (peace and blessings be upon him); rather he (peace and blessings be upon him) would wake up by himself, because we did not know what might be happening to him (peace and blessings be upon him) in his sleep. The narrator said: When Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) woke and saw what had befallen the people, and he was a strong (robust) man, he said the takbir in a loud voice. He kept saying the takbir and raising his voice, until the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up at his voice. When he (peace and blessings be upon him) woke, we complained to him (peace and blessings be upon him) about what had befallen us. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "There is no harm" (Awf (may Allah have mercy on him) was in doubt whether he said "la dayr" or "la darar", both meaning "no harm"). He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Set off." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) set off and travelled a short distance, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted and called for water; he (peace and blessings be upon him) performed ablution, the call to prayer was given, and he led the people in prayer. When he finished the prayer, he saw a man sitting apart who had not prayed with the people. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O so-and-so! What prevented you from praying with the people?" He said: O Messenger of Allah! I had become junub and there was no water. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Hold to the earth, for it is sufficient for you." The narrator said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) travelled on, and the people complained of thirst, so he (peace and blessings be upon him) dismounted. He (peace and blessings be upon him) called so-and-so (Awf (may Allah have mercy on him) named him as well) and called Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him), and said: "Go, both of you, and look for water for us." The two of them set off and suddenly came upon a woman (riding) on her camel between two large water-skins. They asked her: Where is the water? She said: I left the water at this time yesterday, and our group is behind. Abd al-Wahhab said: That is, they are thirsty. The two of them said to her: Come with us. She said: Where to? They said: To the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: Is he the one who is called the Sabi'? They said: Yes, the very one you mean. The two of them brought her to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), told him what she had said, and had her dismount from her camel. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a vessel and poured water into it from the mouths of the water-skins, rinsed his mouth with the water and returned it into the water-skins, then closed their mouths and opened their spouts. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to the people: "Drink and give water to drink." So whoever wished drank and whoever wished gave to drink. Last of all, he gave the man who was junub a vessel of water and said: "Pour this water over your body." The woman was watching this scene and also what was being done with her water. The narrator said: By Allah! When he had used the water as needed, it seemed to us that the water-skins were fuller than before. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Gather some food and provisions for this woman." So they gathered flour and sawiq (barley meal) and prepared provisions of food for her, put the food in a cloth and placed it in front of her. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) addressed the woman, saying: "By Allah! You know that we have not diminished your water at all, but it is Allah who has given us to drink." The woman reached her people somewhat late, and the people of her tribe said: What delayed you? The woman, in amazement, said: Two men came to me and took me to this Sabi' (we seek refuge in Allah). Then the woman narrated the whole incident and said: By Allah! He is either the greatest sorcerer in this region or a true messenger. The narrator said: Later the Muslims would raid the polytheists around their area, but would not touch her area. So the woman said to the people of her tribe: These people are deliberately leaving you alone; would you not like to become Muslims? So the people obeyed her and all of them became Muslims.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Imran bin Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) that one night he was with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey. When dawn was near, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) halted to camp. All the people fell asleep until the sun began to rise high. The first to wake up was Sayyiduna Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), and no one would wake the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him); rather, he would wake up by himself. Then Sayyiduna Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) got up, sat near the head of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and began to say the takbir in a loud voice. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) woke up and saw that the sun was shining, he said: "Move on from here." The Companions moved on from there until the sun became white, then he (peace and blessings be upon him) halted and prayed. Meanwhile, one man did not pray with us, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) asked: "Why did you not pray?" He said: O Messenger of Allah, I am in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah). He (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered: "Perform dry ablution (tayammum) and pray." And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) sent me with a few riders to look for water, while we were extremely thirsty. While we were still searching for water, we caught sight of a woman sitting with her legs hanging between two water-skins. We asked her: Where is the water? She said: Oh, where would there be water here! We said: How far is it between your people and the water? She said: A day and a night. The Companions said: Then come with us to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). She said: To the Messenger of Allah? We did not argue with her at all and brought her to him (peace and blessings be upon him). She repeated the same thing before the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and she also told him that she had orphaned children. the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) had her two water-skins brought down, opened their mouths and put his saliva into them. We, forty thirsty men, drank so much that we were fully quenched, and we filled all our vessels, and we also had that man in the state of janabah take a ritual bath (ghusl). But we did not give water to any animal, and the water-skins began to overflow because of the abundance of water. Then he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to us: "Bring whatever you have!" So we gathered pieces of bread and dates and presented them in a bundle to him (peace and blessings be upon him). The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said to that woman: "Take this and feed your family, and know that we have not taken anything from your water."
When she came to her people, she said: I met the greatest sorcerer among people, or else he is a prophet as they claim. Then Allah guided that settlement through that woman, so she accepted Islam and they accepted Islam.

Najiyah bin Ka'b (may Allah have mercy on him) said that Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud and Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with them both) disputed about a man who becomes junub (in a state of major ritual impurity) and does not find water. Sayyiduna Abdullah bin Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) said: He does not pray until he finds water. Sayyiduna Ammar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was among the camels (in their pasture) and I became junub, and I had no water, so I rolled about (in the dust) as an animal does. Then I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and mentioned (this incident) to him, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Tayammum with clean earth would have sufficed you; when you find water, take a ritual bath."

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that some animals of booty gathered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr, go out into the desert with them." So I went out into the desert to al-Rabadhah. I would become junub and remain so for five or six days. Then I came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Abu Dharr!" I remained silent. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr, may your mother lose you; woe to your mother!" He (peace and blessings be upon him) called for a slave-girl, and she brought a large vessel of water. She screened me with my garment and I screened myself with the mount, then I took a ritual bath, and it was as if a mountain had been lifted off me. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Clean earth is the ablution (wudu) of the Muslim, even if it be for ten years; and when you find water, let it touch your skin, for that is better."

Khalid al-Hadhdha' narrated it in a similar way, and he said: I heard Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) say: Some goats from the goats of charity (sadaqah) gathered with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He (the narrator) did not mention 'camels' and 'woe'; the rest has the same meaning.
