Some of our companions have argued in this matter from the general statement of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): "He should not turn away (from the prayer) until he hears a sound or finds a smell."
And they have also argued from his general statement in the hadith of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him): "Nothing breaks the prayer, and repel (whoever passes in front of you) as much as you can."
It is narrated from Sayyiduna Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Ablution is only required because of a sound or a smell."
(b) Arguing from this hadith, or from the narration of Sayyiduna Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him), in this matter is not valid.

It is narrated from Sayyiduna Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said on the pulpit: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Nothing breaks the prayer except hadath (ritual impurity)." And I will not feel shy before you (in stating the ruling) about what the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) did not feel shy about: hadath is that something passes out without a sound or with a sound.
Only Hibban bin Ali al-Anazi narrated it.
