Abu Qilabah (may Allah have mercy on him) narrates from a man of the Banu Amir tribe that he said: I entered Islam and my religion made me anxious, so I came to Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him). Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I found the climate of Madinah unsuitable for me, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered some camels and goats for me and said: "Drink of their milk." Hammad (may Allah have mercy on him) said: I am in doubt whether their urine is mentioned in it or not. Sayyiduna Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I was far from water and my wife was with me; I became junub and prayed without ablution. I came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at midday, while he (peace and blessings be upon him) was sitting with his Companions in the shade of the mosque. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr!" I said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah! I am ruined. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "What has ruined you?" I said: I was far from water and my wife was with me; I became junub, and I prayed without ablution. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered water to be brought for me. A black slave-girl brought a vessel in which the water was sloshing about. I screened myself behind a camel and took a ritual bath, then I came, and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "O Abu Dharr! Clean earth is a purifier, even if you do not find water for ten years. When you find water, pour it over your body."

Amr bin Shu'ayb narrates from his grandfather (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and said: "If a man is in some distant place where there is no water, may he have intercourse with his wife?" He (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Yes."
A report like this is strengthened by corroborating reports, and the hadith of Ammar bin Yasir and Imran bin Husayn, established from them both, corroborates these two.
